What a difference a week makes, even in railway preservation.

Last week, I had a rant about some of the experiences of travelling in WCR stock on last year's steam programme.

I did my first trip this year between York and Stratford-on Avon and what a contrast!

It was clear from the start that West Coast had spent a lot of time and effort on our train and the resiults were there for all to see and admire. The appearence was right- everything nice and clean, and in the main freshly painted.

Inside our vehicle "Julia", the ambience was just right and it was interesting that our two companions, who were not enthusiasts, commented on how well the coach looked and how clean everything was, including the windows.

In fact, this trip ticked every box it could have done as regards the train ride, catering was excellent as always, stewards were in evidence, but also not too conspicuous either [None of the over officiousness you sometimes can get!].

It's not often I can say "I was wrong" in my rants, and it's almost unheard of for me to say how pleased I am to say I was wrong but in this instance it's clear West Coast have put a lot of effort into improving the rolling stock and it certainly showed yesterday, with many people, by no means enthusiasts as I am, saying how good things were.

It's definately a "Well Done" to West Coast and I'm looking forward to more trips this year!

"Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. " (Luke 15:7).

To be honest though WCRC have such a large fleet now it must be difficult to keep all the coaches at their disposal in top notch condition. I must admit that the Green Train always puts the Riviera Trains stock to shame, but then again I've never travelled on the refurbished coaches in the Royal Scot rake...

    Regards,

    Dan

Would 34067 come under WCR stock list. I think the owner of WCR is also the owner of 34067.

IIRC 34067 is owned by a friend and business associate of David Smith and managed by West Coast. 48151, 44932, 5972, 46115 and Galatea make up the West Coast steam fleet.

Julia is an absolutely stunning coach, and have travelled in that particular one numerous times when it's been marshalled in the green train. The only issue we've found is that the lack of luggage racks due to the ceiling lines does mean that in the winter, there is nowhere to put any coats!

Made interesting reading, thanks. I did not understand this bit though:

In my ignorance I thought all doors were hinged, but that is clearly not so.

Effectively means that doors have to be locked out of use (usually with a carriage key) or fitted with a second lock and patrolled by a steward.

All hinged doors on any part...Toilet doors?
