I do agree that having Crimson Lake as an option was a mistake. Having seen the pictures of Tornado in Brunswick I wouldn't mind seeing that though I would still rather see a blue 46233.

The main thing i'd like is too see the loco do more trips in the south no matter what the liviery unless I can get a trip on her in the future. Though not sure about plaform clearances in the south.

Progress is looking good on the overhaul.

Platform clearance for 6233 at Crewe, P12 especially, is tight. A class of loco built to the very limits of the structure gauge, so yes, it may be out of gauge for parts of the network.

6233 has already visited quite a lot of the ex-Southern system, including the Surrey Hills loop and the LSW mainline. However, there are sure to be parts of Kent and Sussex that she's too big for. As well as platform clearences, she may foul some bridge holes, being perhaps taller at the side of the cab and firebox than the SR profile allows.

Looks like my 100 "votes" for BR blue have made little or no difference...

    LMS Crimson Lake : 1,009
    BR Green: 925
    BR Blue: 701
    LMS Black: 70

The above shows the votes at the time of writing.

In response to the earlier comment on the locomotive being "privately owned" - is this not a public poll?

Do they not, therefore, have a duty of care to ensure that a poll - sold to the general public as a "public vote" - is legitimate in its results?

I've said it once, I'll say it again - a locomotive owner can paint their engine any colour they like. But when you actively involve the general public, not only does the responsibility of choosing the paint change hands: you have an added responsibility to make sure the poll is fair from the outset.

Yet more and more, the crimson lake vote goes up. I cannot fathom it. Why is it so? Dogs in the manger voting for crimson lake? A few wealthy people with a vested interest in the locomotive's livery? Or is LMS crimson lake more popular than the other three choices in reality?

We will probably never know - its "votes" not the number of people voting, that counts, after all.

A possible long shot theory I just thought of is that it could be a ploy by the PRCLT to boost the votes/coffers. By increasing the number of votes Crimson has, more people may vote to boost the chances of green and therefore increase the money in the kitty.

    There is hope yet.

Eddie this is the same conclusion that I came to back at post 131! (Yes I appreciate its been a while!)

I don't believe it is a ploy from the PRCLT though. I'm sure they are being completely professional as it wouldn't be in there interest to manipulate the vote in anyway, despite what some people believe! The voting for Red however is likely to be from people who are either......

    1. Die hard LMS Red fans who are campagning against anything other than LMS
    2. Those voters who want to boost the coffers and therefore vote Red as it will have the best finacial return for their buck

It is clear from model railways and preserved photography that BR liveries are clearly the most popular choice in this age, mainly because of the majority of enthusiasts are sentimental and these are the memories of their youth. I'm slightly different to what I percieve as the majority, in as much as that I grew up with my grandfathers photographs and therefore prefer BR liveries.

I personally still believe that either Blue or Green will win the race in the end and i'm sure that the PRCLT believe this too. The fact of the matter is that we still have another 3 months to go and we're not even halfway through the voting period yet! Nearly 3000 votes have already been cast which has raised over £4,000! If things continue at this rate, assuming a lull in the voting in the short term balaned off with a rush of votes towards the end, then the PRCLT are well on the way to raising £10,000! Not a bad return for the cost of a coat of paint!

Now to those who are voting Red! I really do understand if you want to maximise the financial return of your donation. However, if 46233 does go either Blue or Green then the financial return over the year that she isn't wearing your preferred colours is likely to be much greater than if she was in Red. I believe this on the basis that people who wouldn't normally come out to see her will do due to the unmistakable difference! I believe there will be a greater demand for her tours in her new livery. Finally I suspect the photo charter demand to be greatly increased when she's not on the main line! If you do allow Red to prevail then this opportunity will be detrimental in the longer term for these reasons.

I did like the AV post, brought a smile to my face. That said it is correct! If it was a case of LMS or BR livery then the results I suspect would be far more clear cut! The choice of both Blue or Green does risk us BR livery fans to shot ourselves in the foot! Personally I want to see Blue, but as mentioned before I would rather Green than Red!

As the PRCLT said about the vote "use it or lose it"! It was very brave of them to leave it to us because of the negativity that could follow, as at the end of the day it ill be aimed at them, not the people who actually make the decision via voting! To them this is purely a way of raising money. It doesn't matter at all to them what colour eventually wins, as long as the costs are covered, of which i'm sure they already have been!

Good to see restoration going so well!

Wow, Green has taken the lead (narrowly). The power of the railway press :)

    Red 1,593
    Green 1,644
    Blue 939

It must be some kind of conspiracy. The bank transfer for Crimson Lake votes obviously didn't go through this week...

Good, green is not my No.1 but it is a close second after blue. I'd rather see anything than red win.

Interesting how black has randomly doubled.

Interesting to note that the article in HR seems to have had almost a "Twitter" effect, in that the votes cast per week (by my reckoning) for the last 6 weeks have been 140, 200, 50, 50, 700, 1600.

What they could do now is to apply for an injunction banning any mention in the press of the fact that an unidentified Duchess of the realm, referred to in the court papers only as "6233", has been involved in an elaborate "scam" to obtain money from members of the public by offering the chance to see her dress up in daring underwear. If they can drop in a mention of any unnamed Manchester City footballers along the way, the interest will be such that they could raise enough money for the next two overhauls and repaints!

I love the Duchess but far more importantly to me is to see her back in steam. I prefer LMS red, dont like green (although i understand why it is the colour of choice for some) so i have voted for blue.

I'd just like to make it plain to all that my previous comments about the poll, and my discomfort over the way in which it is operating does not mean that I believe that it is being conducted in an underhand or dishonest manner.

Doubt that narrow lead will last long. I'm sure red will see the usual timely 'bump' we've become accustomed to over the last couple of months...

Green still hasn't got much of a lead though. I'd feel a bit more comfortable if there were a few hundred votes between Green and Red... And if Blue could take 2nd place that'd be even better.

    Still its only paint!

So, this week, a paltry 50 votes for red, 70 for green, and ZERO for blue? Very strange.......
