Oooh that would look and sound great especially with some Blood and Custard MK1's.

Mind you 6023 and 6024 climbing Dainton together. That would sound magnificent.

I think the blue King looks magnificent, the only slight misgiving I have is the matt smokebox - even if it is authentic, gloss or satin finish would look better.

I was thinking the same thing myself, but hey the rivet counters would string us up if that happened.

    Regards

I have to say I agree she looks great in Blue but a bit more of a black gloss on the smokebox would be good though I don't mind it at the moment.

I prefer a satin finish. The SVR paint some of their engines with a gloss paint which doesn't look quite right.

GWR paint spec actually states a gloss smokebox. The matt finish looks very odd against everything else which is really glossy.

Mmm. I have to agree. It gives the impression of a job not yet finished. <BJ>

Not worried about the smokebox, that would come up nicely with a wipe over with the good old oil and parafin mix.
The thing that looks out of place to me is the numberplate black gloss background, which makes the name plate matt black background look very dull in comparison.
However, not wishing to sound too much of a hypcrite, I've always said I don't care what colour it is so long as the engineer in me knows it drives and runs as it should. (Sorry photographers!)

So when does she arrive at the Mid Norfolk? I heard elsewhere that she has been put on the road transport?
The MNR will need a thread on here to update the details & photos

Visiting Didcot yesterday I noticed the connections on the back of KEII's tender.

What is going on here? Is the steam heat now the pipe that looks like an air hose, or is this a through pipe for air brakes? (As far as I can see the original steam heat pipe has no hose attached?)

Looks to me like (from left) vac pipe, steam heat valve (without bag) and finally through air pipe.

No need for a steam heat bag at the moment!

The pipes you can see are vacuum train pipe on the LHS above the hook and a through air pipe (denoted by being painted white) on the RHS below the buffer beam. You are correct in that the steam heat pipe has not been fitted.

The BR General Appendix required that steam heat pipes be removed as soon as possible after 15th June and be re-fitted by 25th August each year.
Absolutely nothing to do with todays railway but it simply shows that a lack of steam heat pipe is nothing unusual.

Why? Seems a pointless exercise for just one month of the year.

For maintenance purposes, to ensure that they were in good operating condition by the start of the heating season.

Why only one air pipe, and what is its function? Normally there are two, the connections being painted red and yellow.

It is a through air pipe, hence it is painted white. It would appear that the locomotive itself is not equiped with air brakes.
