The next PMV from AVR should now be at the MHR. I saw it yesterday near Winchester.

re 41312: the engine is owned by john Jones and whilst it might need little work you are still looking at a full retube and boiler lift plus what ever might be found once it is stripped down, and if my memory serves me right John also had the funds already set aside for her overhaul. but that was back when she was withdrawn at the end of her ticket

Er, 34058 is ex-Barry. It has never steamed in preservation.

34058 has been moved at the Avon Valley Railway. It now sits at the car park end of the siding and is in a more suitable position if a transfer
to road transport were required. The boiler rests on blocks some 12 inches above the chassis. A crane will have to be used to lift it. <BJ>

Well, it left Bitton about 5 minutes ago...after a minor amount of agro getting it on the trailer and a small modification to make it into a cabriolet...

Will probably be at the MHR by midday tomorrow...

Excellant news, there seems to be a bit of a Bulleid musical chairs going on at the moment with 34058 off to MHR, 35005 moving to Eastleigh and 35018 moving to (rumoured) Bury.

After a bit of fun with the lorry winch, and suggestion of using the sentinal shunting loco to push SFP the final furlong, we then find the cab height was out of gauge by 3". Why? the loco is riding high on the springs being devoid of many parts and most probably the axleboxes being seized in the horns. Also, normally this loco type would have been loaded in the reverse direction. Weilding the gas axe, the cab was converted into a cabriolet to meet the necessary height required by MVR - well they know the route to Alresford and the bridges they face.
Don't worry, SFP needs a new cab in any case, the existing being retained as a pattern for the new one. It has to be said, SFP resisted its exit day from its home for the last 22ish years. Now, it has a new journey, I and the rest of the LM Society, left behind at the AVR who continue with 4123, wish the MHR loco department much happiness in finally rebuilding SFP, using the vast collection of parts already made. We look forward to seeing the day SFP moves under her own steam and it would be a great day when it runs with the other ex Bitton loco 45379. Hopefully that day wont be too long.

    Goodbye for now SFP...

Thanks for the report. I shall miss seeing SFP as I walk past the AVR each day whilst walking the dog along the Bristol - Bath cycleway.
I glance across to the remains of 4F 44123 and think to myself ''one day .....''. I still cringe when I look at the graffiti on the cab side ..... 'Rust In Peace' . <BJ>

You wont have to cringe for much longer, 4123 will go under cover in September.

I very much hope that the next time '58 sees Bitton she'll be a working loco, nicely run-in and in peak condition. In the mean time, 5379 will be visiting soon...
