    Re: 70000 "Britannia" at Crewe

Just thought you all might like to know the reason 70000 was running so late.

My Dad received this email from a friend of his!

    Subject: visit of 70000

Hi all, the 70000 finally arrived in Church Stretton at 6.10pm yesterday. Some clown of a signalman forgot to go to Crewe to open up the way out of the workshops and it started an hour late. It then got tangled up with the evening rush hour traffic and had to be put up sidings to let expresses past.when I got to the station at 4.15 there were about 15 of us, when it arrived there were so many people that the police came to control the crowd. The result was a bit of a carnival atmosphere with a big cheer when it arrived. It was magnificent, but no photos as it was now dark and the loco was black. Bye all. Derek

Just out of interest where was the stock heading to? Possibly the most rag tag selection of stock I have seen for a long time!

The stock went back to Crewe. It went to Bristol to provide a load for the Brit.

does anyone know if everything is ok with 70000 after its run, after all its the furthest its ran in quite a long time and a fast run with a load behind it is bound to find any last niggles if there are any

When is Britannia due to get a lick of the green paint, I've had a quick look back and can't find a previous comment, but I guess that may have changed anyway?

IMHO before it goes green they should line it out fully and put red-backed plates on. Repaint the tender axle boxes yellow with the red stripes too...

Scheduled for a test run today I see on UKsteam - so hope all goes well with that.

Then off to the WSR on Saturday (engine and coach). It may operate the Quantock Belle dining train on Saturday evening, turning and coaling at Minehead in the process. I'm not sure if it will appear on any other WSR service trains during its 9 day stay.

    Re: 70000 "Britannia" at Crewe

In the grand scheme of things, and given the work that's been required to get 70000 back on the main line, I'd respectfully suggest that repainting is a fair way down the list of priorities...

That's an amazing model - how'd you make it? Start with a 9F at a guess?

If I'm not very much mistaken, I'd say that wheelset looks like one 'borrowed' from a good old-fashioned Hornby 8F (ie. not the most recent tooling)...

    Re: 70000 "Britannia" at Crewe

Sorry BP not the case, the wheels are 21mm diameter from a kit supplier (dont know whether that includes the tyres) they are pretty accurate to the 5ft 3 envisaged for the 1951 design for this locomotive
Started life as a Brittania model, the frames and motion are bespoke build, pony truck and cylinders (?)of a 9f (?) ... so not disimilar to what you'd need to build one for real....any takers ?
Also its the work of Ian Mellors of Redgate Models (not my good self) who has saved me the cost of commissioning one for the time being. and in true nat pres style it was painted unlined black first (see my profile gallery Mikado fest) but unless i buy it it wont be going green any time soon....

I am copying the Post to a more relevant thread...
