Looking forward to this event and mini gala with 9466 in July. Also notice on MNR website Beavertail is being used on certain dates. Hope all goes well for everyone associated with 6023. Hope to see many people make the trip to Norfolk.

BBC Radio Norfolk has just announced that the safety valve cover has fallen off the loco on the A47 near Swaffham. Can whoever picked it up, return it asap! Not a good start for its trip to the MNR. There is a cash reward, so I hope the word gets around and it is found and returned to 6023.

Just to warn people that a rover ticket this coming weekend costs £30! Complete rip off!

Is that £30.00 for the weekend or just for one day? Does seem expensive if just for a days rover. Might wait for a ride another weekend when normal fares apply. Loco looks superb with attached borrowed bonnet. Just run to Wymondham on a successful gauging run.

It is £30 for a day rover ticket this weekend with future running days with 6023 being £20.

    Hi

Timetable for weekend augmented with additional DMU service to allow photographers to travel to intermediate stations see http://www.mnr.org.uk/events/steam/.

As DUKE71000 indicated, premium fares apply for the first weekend:
    "Fares
For the weekend of the launch of 6023, fares will be £15 for adults and £10 for children. Admission to Dereham station on that weekend will require the purchase of a platform ticket (£2) or travel ticket. Fares for the "two locos in steam" and Steam Gala events are to be announced in due course. Otherwise, our standard fares apply."

The rover ticket does mean that you can get 88 miles behind KEII (34p per mile), or if you want to wait for the following weekend the rover ticket is £20 (23p per mile). The ordinary return for the first weekend is £15 (22 mile return trip) or £10 on subsequent 'green' or 'purple' timetable days http://www.mnr.org.uk/services/

Value for money? We will have to see if there are many fare paying passengers over the first weekend!!

    agreed:
A regular fare on WSR is £15.60, ELR is £12.50, MHR is £14, NYMR is £16.... similar length lines, similar fares so it doesnt seem to be a rip off to me.
First weekend of 6023 is always going to be somewhat special, unless someone is planning to bring 46235 out of a musuem.. this is your last chance to see the "first run in preservation" one of the great express classes.. all the rest have run... it's all Merchant Navies from here on.

    7027. If it ever runs.

And I would put forward a 'fixed' 6100 - and Hamilton in her new form. But still a very exciting weekend, although I'm waiting 'til she gets to the Valley.

Based on a single return trip the price of £15 is about right. The prices you stated for the MHR & WSR are rover tickets. This makes the price of £30 more or less double the price! imo that is certainly very high, thus I won't be attending this weekend.

As for this being the first runs of 6023 in preservation, its not. I think you will find they were on April 2nd.

So the first runs in preservation of 6000 and 6024 don't count then. Irrespective of that however, I'm sure there will be plenty of people wanting to have their first run behind 6023 on a railway rather than the Didcot demo line.

I believe you misinterpreted my post, so i'll rephrase what I was trying to say.
There are no other preserved mainline express class 8's in the UK that have not run in preservation except 46235, and a few Merchant Navies..
    6000, 6024, 35005,35027,35028, 6201,46203,46229,46233,60007,60009,60019,4468,4472,60532, 60163,71000 .. they have all run.

Therefore this weekend with 6023 is the last chance for some time to be on a historic first and for sometime after it'll only be a few Merchant Navies that will provide oppourtunity for first run in preservation of a class 8 express passenger engine... even Class 7's dont have many that havent run... a few Bulleids & 7027, 4073 and 4003. (4079 has already run).

    Enjoy this weekend.

I'd have no problem with paying 30 quid to enjoy 6023 haulage all day, but the cost of travel from Cornwall is a bit more of a deterrent!

Got you now. I thought you were referring to the class as a whole rather than 6023 in particular.

If the sound of 6023 pulling out of Wymondham Abbey is anything to go by, we are in for a treat when the mainline runs start and also Eardington Bank in the autumn!

Having spent most of Saturday following 6023 around the MNR I can honestly say the power and elegance of this loco is outstanding. What a noise. I don't think Norfolk has heard anything like this for a long time. I must recommend a visit to see the loco put through its paces. If this is running the loco in I cannot wait to see 6023 on the mainline. What a performer and congratulations to Dennis and the crews. Magnificent.

For comparison, you can easily get 108 miles (and more, if you try) for your rover ticket on the NYMR, so that works out at a value for money 14.8p/mile. No premium for riding behind Tornado, either!
