Any news on this Gala other than the dates? Its been unusually quiet by the WSR on this one, normally by now the normal associated promotion around the gala would have started.

Time booked off and will soon be booking accommodation to attend all 4 days - would just like to know what the plans are.

  2. AFAIK nothing at all - apart from the dates :-(

Quite a contrast to the details already available for the SVR's autumn event.

Exactly what I was thinking.... I'll be going to both so not bothered that SVR are hogging all the big named engines as I'll see them on the matching stock there lol.

Really hoping to see the Manor & Hall running though with any luck... also not seen 3850 in its new BR Black livery so looking forward to seeing that too

And if SEPT are looking for ideas, would be really nice to see the Capprotti 5 back and maybe they will try for Lizzie again which doesn't appear to be doing anything else at the moment.

Would be nice to see and hear Manston on the WSR banks - if the Swanage can cope with out her for a few days. Not generally a fan of bullieds but I do have a soft spot for Manston - quite a bark and that beasty

  7. I have been helpfully reminded the official WSR website does list the following locos as possibles:

    BR(W) 4-6-0 no 7828 Odney Manor
GWR 4-6-0 no 6960 Raveningham Hall
    Braunton - 34046
    GWR 5542
    GWR 5553
    S&D JR 88
    GWR 4160
    GWR 3850

    Good to see 5542 listed.

To which has now been added Great Northern N2 0-6-2T no 1744 (BR 69523) courtesy of the Great Central.
There will also be an autocoach in use.
5553 is uncertain, as it's ticket runs out just before the gala.

So both 5553 and 5542 Out of ticket at about the same time.... With Brauntons future deptature to Southall and presumably Raveningham Hall off to GWR after running in by my reckoning that leaves only Norton Manor, 4160, 88, 3850 and 9351 which will also soon be out of ticket. So very shortly the WSR will have only 4 operational locos. Is there any plans to expand the fleet? I suppose Dinmore Manor will be back at some point in the next 12 months and the Std 4 tank must be getting close.

Back to topic now. Hopefully the 2 new overhauled locos make it and whilst the lineup might not have the stars of the SVR it still looks pretty good to me. Looking forward to seeing 3850 in black, especially on a frieght outing

I don't think there are any plans in place at the moment to move either 34046 or 6960 away from the WSR. Braunton will remain home based at Williton (not Southall) and it will continue in use on the WSR in the peak timetable period for the forseeable future. The longer term future of 6960 has yet to be announced but it will remain on the WSR for the time being. Also bear in mind that 4561 is also now under overhaul at Williton, although when it returns to service depends on the condition of the frames which may possibly have to be replaced. The WSR normally needs five engines of Class 4 or above to maintain its peak service, so I think 2012 is covered, with additional engines hired in as required for Galas and special events !

I suggest that any further discussion on WSR locomotive plans should perhaps be moved to a more suitable thread.

Are there any plans to bring in anymore visiting engines? IMO the current line up is looking rather average.

80136, which is at Crewe for overhaul I believe.

This shows how difficult it is to follow on from the really great galas that the WSR has laid on - but at a time of national economic difficulties we may have to get used to managing our expectations. Back in the 70s and even 80s, this line up would have been thought pretty amazing.

That is quite true. I was not expecting a 'star lineup', just a couple of engines from smaller lines getting a good run would do me nicely. Booked to be there for the duration and looking forward to it, even if the line up isn’t entirely to my liking.

To be perfectly honest I would prefer a 'non-star lineup' every time. I'm looking forward to this gala, and, like you, I've booked for the duration.

    Regards

Light Pacific 34070 Manston from Swanage is now confirmed as another visitor for the WSR Autumn Gala.

Yup noticed that on the WSR site earlier. Great addition.... not a bullied fan in general but I love this loco and she does have a very loud rasp! Hoping the timetable boys set up a double header with Braunton :)

Lets hope so, at a decent time too! Pitty 30777+34046 didn't happen in the spring as was planned. Really looking forward to this event, but unsure what the N2 can do on the WSR...
