You wouldn't expect a jumbo jet to be overloaded. A heavier load would equal disaster. <BJ>

Glad they are on the way - but it is going to be an incredibly long day for the support crew; especially if they're still going to try and get back to Southall once the train has arrived back in Poole around 23:30. Very frustrating too as it would appear all was going very well until the stall.

Yes I know it has and one day some might learn and accept that there will be certain times when you will HAVE to have a diesel as part of the railtour. Either that or TOC's will be requesting that NR ban steam over their area....

The only thing that's certain, is that the decision whether to have a diesel on the back of a steam tour, will made with no regard to the opinions expressed on trainspotter forums.

Video from Horfield bank this morning. The loco seemed to be going well enough before it stopped. You could still see the train from the bridge we use for the second shot. Drove round to see what happened but had to leave before rescue arrived.

There seemed to be quite a bit of smoke or something coming from low down around the driving wheels in that video???

I'm intrigued . She was going very well inboth clips , no sign of a struggle and seemed to have the climb well under control .

I think Ralph's smoke is probably steam , it being sufficiently warm for it not to condense fully

So did she again have air pump problems which brought her to a stand and then couldn't restart ?

Wasted half a day today and £10 railfare waiting for 3 hours in brilliant sunshine on Newport Station.

I can see now why Bulleid Pacifics were rebuilt all that oil sloshing about on the wheels makes for poor dead starting capabilities on hills.

Thats two Bulleids failing to make it in Wales, I also saw Taw Valley fail in the Vale of Glamorgan line in the late 90s.

Now I'm not a Bulleid fan but that is a ridiculous statement, she did not slip to a stand nor did she slip attempting to restart.

The oil on the wheels comes from the top feed to the axleboxes, not from the oil bath.

I don't know much about Bullieds, but does Tangmere still have the original reversing gear which was I believe prone to slipping? Could this explain stalling after what appeared to be a competent climb of Filton Bank.As for restarting was she caught in what might be called being caught at top dead centre,or at least with all three cylinders being caught in a neutral position.
    Colin.

Claptrap, absolute claptrap. Whatever caused the problem today it wasn't wheel slip. Rather pleased you wasted your £10.

She has the original steam reverser but with the level of maintenance Bulleids get in preservation, reverser creep is not a significant problem. Stopping blind can happen sometimes but setting back a few yards solves that problem. Will be interesting to learn what caused 34067 to stall.
