A great show from 46115 on Shap. Dull weather and backlight meant a less than perfect vid but I have managed to brighten it a bit using Pinnacle. Of course the sun came out a few minutes later. Still, the sound is awesome!

Awesome performance from 46115 yesterday, particularly from Preston to Carlisle in the hands of the fantastic Albert Seymour. Preston to Carnforth was a brilliant cameo, a top speed of 78mph and inside even time within 16 miles and only a slow run into the loop vrought the start to stop average down below mile a minute. The Scot was possibly a carriage overloaded at 12, however, you wouldn't have known it as she put in a performance a lot of pacifics would've been proud of on Grayrigg, holding 50mph for a long way up the bank before falling away to a minimum of 45.2 at Grayrigg loop. The recovery up the Lune gorge was measured at first, then Albert made his move with a superb acceleration reaching the foot of Shap at 77.2 mph. The next few minutes were to prove historic as 46115 showed she is every inch a top link performer. The noise was volcanic as the Scot put in the performance of it's life taking 12 carriages over Shap at just a fraction under 40mph at 39.2, the final fall below 40 just happening a few hundred yards from the summit. This apparently is the fastest a Scot has ever been up Shap with a 12 coach load. Much use of the brakes and a top speed of 80.2mph for the day just before Penrith, saw a rapid descent and a 15 minute early arrival into Carlisle. Albert Seymour's comment after much congratulations was, 'I've not had any complaints yet!' - never more true words spoken there Albert!
The return saw a change of driver and a little more subdued performance up the S&C. The weather deteriorated and it became a battle of the elements of drizzle, wind and a heavy 12 coach load. Ais Gill was dismissed at 28.2mph, within schedule and we were 10 early into Hellifield after a brisk run down through Settle. A stop start run down through Clitheroe and Langho cleared very competantly at 28mph, saw us disappointingly back at Preston 10 late, very undeserving and through no fault of the loco. Efficient effort by platform staff and West coast saw diesels reattached and us away only 2 late and back to Crewe 4 early.
This was an excellent tour, perfectly executed with superb performances from both loco & crew. Well done West Coast and RTC. This was also our first experience of Premier Dining having won tickets last year, another big thank you to Gravy Train catering for excellent food, brilliant service and making us feel very fat by the end of the day! After a few hiccups recently, this trip has definitely restored my confidence in mainline steam.

Thanks for this great report of the day. Looks like it was an outstanding run from 46115 going by the many videos.
