    Hold up,

We've had 4930,36,53,65, 5972, 6960,98 on type mainline, and don't think any of them wore BR 1960's livery ?

or 5900 for that matter - and, yes, some of us actually like/prefer BR livery.

Hang on. Didnt 5982 carry BR livery before she became Hogwarts?
Enough of the livery debate. Its owners prerogative.
When is she doing the customary tests runs? Im thinking first half of next week?

It's not an obsession, just personal preference, particularly as it smartens the disparate classes of locomotives up. In a way, it enhances the ability to compare the engineering differences without the livery diverting the eye.

Only difference in livery is on the tender!! Loco is the same colour and has the same number whichever company livery, GWR or BR, so not much diverting of eyes there.

Well there is a smokebox door number on a BR liveried GWR engine. Its alright painting stuff in BR livery so long as you strike the balance with pre-war liveries.

Your picture looks exactly as I remember ex-works former GWR locos outside Swindon works in the early 60's. The picture in the latest SR looks wrong, the green looks too light. Talking about the SR picture, is it going to have a smokebox number plate fitted? The picture still shows a painted buffer beam number. Just asking.

Front plate was very much in evidence on Sunday

I think final painting was only just completed

5972 did run in BR Green pre Hogwarts

6990 has run in both GWR and BR Lined Black

The only Halls to carry BR Livery so far are 4936 , 5972 & 6990 . All the others have carried GWR 4920,4930,5900,4965,6998

Don't forget 7903 for completeness - in early BR livery; correctly a different shade of green from the later BR livery as now applied to 4936. Despite what Irwellsteam claims there are numerous differences between GWR/early BR/late BR green liveries not least the actual shade of green, (& red), lining & which details were painted black or green as well as front number plate, shed code/shed plate etc etc................

Even better, shedplate as well! Forgot about that. I might be wrong, is 4936 the first Hall in preservation to carry the full later BR green livery? I think 6990 & 6960? had "British Railways" on the tender. Not sure what 5972 had.

I think 5043 also has the "early" BR green livery as well, goes with the early crest & I think it looks the same as 7903.

Didn't 5972 carry late BR livery with all the trimmings, apart from a thick layer of grime of course!
