A cracking day out, excellent running by 5305, train packed, Murder Mystery was reported to go fine but as was said before, only concerned those in the first two premier dining coaches. A passengers very pleased with the very eraly arrival in Scarborough, nearly 30 minutes.
Let down on the return, after early start away from Milford, held at Healey Mill until near due time, approached Manchester eraly only to sit on Miles Platting bank waiting for platform a there was a failed unit blocking 4. Finally got in to 3 approx 10 minutes down, water stop as Eccles shortened so back into Lime Street just 5 late.
Great job done by all concerned.

What an excellent day out! :) 45305 was immaculately turned out and a credit to all at the 5305 LA. 45305 was load 10 and had a real challenge before her, however, the loco and the crews responded superbly. The loco performed faultlessly all day and some of the music from the front end will remain with me for a very long time. The long westbound climb from Hornbury to Summit Tunnel, some 28 miles, was a joy to listen to.

Being a 'scouser', 45305 was a one time resident of 8A and in my note book I recorded my last sighting of her as Sunday, 28th April 1968, 'on shed'. Some 43 years later, I was able to, finally, have a run behind her; it was worth waiting for. :)

Again, my thanks to all. Some clips I recorded from the day are on youtube.

Amazing how much you could hear from the back wasn't it.. The on the way home, music all the way.
You should have said you were on board Alan and I would have come to say hello, I was on duty in 'E' but often came back to 'H' to have a chat with Mike..

Looks like with this trip and all others this weekend it made a lot of happy chappies...not one single moan.....I was dreading fires again, the ground is very dry, reservoirs on the Pennines are getting low, although we are forecast some rain later this week. I must agree with everyone 45305 is a credit to them.

It was made know down the train as we waited outside Man Vic, that the reason for the delay was a broken down new(ish) diesel unit..

Certainly could hear her just fine, even back in coach H. Coming home we were now second coach and she sounded even better! Never thought to mention I was on it, could have said 'hello' to you & Mike; will remember next time. :)

Next on the agenda is Ollie out of Lime Street - he may be a tad louder! :) :)

Glad to hear 45305 performed superbly up north, she was always a lively performer when i've had her on Vintage Trains tours and and certainly one of the better 'Fives'.
