Usually get a decent charge through Donny on the middle road but you can't say which is a sure thing. I've had slow passes and quick ones at all three.

Are you travelling by train/bus or do you have a car? By car, there are good spots from the old A1 between Sutton-on-Trent and Weston, and from the footpaths behind Weston church. Also from the A614 between Scrooby and Bawtry, south of Doncaster.

For the return, everyone heads for Gamston Bank, just south of Retford. Get there in good time and have a scout around. Lot's of options. Actually, even if you're on public transport, this is a good location. Probably 30 mins walk from Retford station, less if you can get a southbound bus down the A638 to Eaton.

SOUTHBOUND Good photos, I think. You seem to be able to fill your photos, Stuart, and I mean by not having 40% sky in them. OK, overhead wires in these not ideal, but I still think your 'Coal Fired' with EOME and 'ScarboroughFlyer' Oct 10 are some of the very best. I'm sure there are many more to come.........

Thanks for your comments Pete, much appreciated. :yo:

I wasn't fishing for compliments with my comment just expressing frustration at the options available on the ECML. The overhead wires are restrictive as is the generally flat straight nature of the line but I've got an idea for something a bit different and if it comes off I'll post it on the forum.

What a junk yard our railways have become-it's called progress.
Yet in the 'steam days' one could view the countryside without obstructions and I remember it with fond affection.Thank goodness not everywhere is like this,as in the excellent picture of David P.

Not helped by the lengths of string held up by iron girders on most of the network, Thankfully the Southern & the Western (for now!) regions are free of this. I rue the day if & when it arrives on the former GW lines.

And if it ever gets to the S&C then it's time to give up photos and video in the north west.

It's not just the furniture required to run a modern railway (masts, wires etc) that makes it look a mess. Both for the photographer and the travelling public the lineside vegitation is just out of hand in most places. No wonder people call it a green corridor. Then thousands are spent to combat the leaf fall season! Wake up Network rail No trees=No leaves and a better looking railway that doesn't scream neglect.

Then you get the 'conservationists' complaining about cutting down all those trees and wildlife habitat...

Bleeding hearts and do gooders Ralph, the world is full of them. Its an operational railway not a wildlife sanctuary.
Take it from me i'm no tree hugger!
