Yes it was he. Steve and Helen said it was a real laugh doing the filming - and it really brightened my evening watching it too.

I think a top and tail version would be a more sensible modernisation plan for the Harrogate line than using ex LT stock!

Some would say the ride quality of the caravans would actually be better than the current rolling stock on the Harrogate line. The noise levels would certainly be quieter!

I understand that David Elliott (CME A1SLT) had a lot to do with the engineering side and ensuring that the "rolling stock" was as safe as possible. I gather the abs brakes on the Audi presented the biggest challenge! :fear:

That was very funny last night, the caravans looked like they were set on pway trollies ?

Oh, sorry I didn't realise. I thought they were riding around in refurbished Pacers?

Indeed.... I have to say that the caravan didn't come off so well against the 45 as the nuclear flask did. Memo to Network Rail, don't transport nuclear waste in converted caravans! Full marks to the GCR for allowing the staging of what was one of the funniest episodes in a long time, given that it took up half the programme I'd say the preservation world got their money's worth. I'd love to know what Steve Davies, Helen Ashby and Nick Piggott all thought of it......

Nah! A Pacer would never give a ride that good!

I found it very amusing. Really cheered me up after a bad day. The guy on the toilet made me laugh so much I had tears in my eyes. One of the best episodes of Top Gear of recent years. Only predictable bit was the fire.
I look forward to the write up by Nick Piggott in the next issue of The Railway Magazine.

So who was the bloke in scum class ?
What speed did they actually reach, clarkson made reference to 60 and 80, but I don't believe that for one minute, did it actually make 25 ?

The choice of 08 was brilliant.. The clarkson coming up close onto the black and yellow ends of the 08 was funny.

At first I thought it was Phil Marsh from The Railway Magazine railtour column but then wasn't too sure if it was.

At times it has to be said Clarkson's 'Sports Train' really looked to be going some, and it didn't look sped up.

It was a good laugh, my favourite part has to be Clarkson's argument that a Gooch single is a 'pimped' sports train with it's 96" rims and 'phat' exhaust!

Watched it today, yes very funny, but I did feel that it went on a bit to long, they strung it out too much flogging it for all they were worth.

I'd agree. The joke wore a bit thin after a while. Amusing, but not as good as the 'build a boat', 'go caravaning' or 'driving across the red-neck states' in previous series.

Ifound some bits enjoyable, Clarkson was being an pratt as normal, but the other 2 did keep things more in keeping and if any thing it was funnier because of it at least May knows the light railway passinger speed, and hammonds attempts at being a steward was the funiest i have ever seen where as Clarkson is just a borish speed merchant who probally knows nothing about how railways operate hense the near miss with the 08 and the bragging of doing 80mph , how i would have liked to have been behind the controler of the 08 , one slight mistake with the power notch and whoops, no more Mr speed is everything
