Please -please - please - will the industry get its act together and start talking to Network Rail with a single voice about treating the market - (the public) with some respect. This is yet another example of silly rule making by the infrastructure owner long after the details have been put to bed.

Since these series of Monday tours were announced in January as starting from Crewe before proceeding to Liverpool Lime St where the steam would take over, hasn't it been assumed that the locos would be from the Crewe pool, I don't think that Compass Tours ever said anything other than the locos would be sourced through West Coast, While the stock and the diesel are already at Crewe (from the weekend tours) it makes sense to use them. The loco pool as advertised in January is much changed, apart from 6201 (and none of these tours appear on their website) Could it be, that the loco owners/custodians have not been asked about these trips? Hence the changes that seem to have now been made using West Coast/ Carnforth based locos.

Compass Tours clearly stated on their adverts for these tours including on their website from the start that locomotives used would be from the "West Coast Pool" That statement has recently disappeared.

As to the last 2 posts, Jeffs post that was quoted was made on 12 Jan this year, since then he has been stewarding the "bucket and spade mob" on the Scarborough Flyer last Friday.

Just to add I am without a car until this coming Saturday and I was dissapointed that I coudn't get out to see todays run, which isn't until next Monday... :embarassed: I really need to read these threads more closely.

    Neil.

I found out it wasn't until next week when I texted someone who I thought was onboard today during my liquid lunch to see if they were having a good trip! :behindsofa:

Anyway I hope to be out next Monday, the 1st...

    Cheers, Neil.

The timings issued by West Coast for next Mondays run show the loco running light from Crewe to Preston to meet the train there. That to me would indicate a loco from the 'Crewe Pool', as it seems very unlikely that West Coast would run a loco light to Crewe during the weekend, and then back to Preston on Monday morning.

If what Ralph says is true then to the outsider that would seem an illogical thing to do. Most of those travelling on the train (not me) are expecting steam all the way. Surely then if the engine is already at Crewe this would have prevented an anticipated backlash from disgruntled customers.

Don't forget that the steam would have been on the back to Liverpool anyway, and I think that the vast majority of the Compass customer base are ones who normally go on their diesel tours, so would not really be too concerned about the reduction of steam mileage.
I am informed that the first two are practically full and the others are filling well.

Taking account of what has been written already, and the above loco is confirmed, no reason why they could of not start & finish the "Steam" section of the railtour from Liverpool Lime St as originally advertised. There will be some disgruntled (Liverpool) customers especially when they find about the change - talking about moving the goal posts and possible getting short changed especially if 45305 comes off earlier than anticipated? At the moment I think Compass Railtours need to change the tour name to the "Ribble Moorlander" to take account of the real (steam) haulage of the tour.

This is Compass Rails first foray into the steam rail tour market, a little leeway might be allowed, after all it is a tour that is mainly steam hauled, the bit that is lost is from Lime Street to Preston, not actually a large percentage of the total steam mileage.

Yet it was. Arr Carlisle slightly early. Very good going with such a load, which wd certainly have been double-headed in LMS / BR days.
