I believe there are approx 7 - two nominally operational and the rest dumped, mostly at Thessaloniki.

It would be good to get anoter one over here, especially if it was left in greek spec for a bit of interest.

IIRC someone has contacted the greek railway company and was told that they were for spare parts and not for sale, I suspect with the state of their economy anything approaching a reasonable offer would be very welcome!

There's two WD 2-10-0 from Greece in the UK, neither working.
Additionally there's 600.. also not working.

You could import the others, if youve got the cash.. why not buy one of the above ?
but if they were left to rot, whats the point ?

The 2-10-0s in the UK may not be working, but as far as I'm aware they're not for sale either, so anyone who fancies having their own WD2-10-0will perforce have to look to Greece!

When our 90775 at the NNR first went out of traffic I looked to see if the Greek ones still existed. You could clearly see the locos dumped (WD 2-10-0s, USA tanks and S160s) at Thessaloniki on Google maps (depot just to the North West of the main station) and some down near the docks, looking today with new more detailed maps they seem to have disappeared, the turntable is still there but no row of rusting locos.

If any were left now they would need a lot of work to restore to uk standards, the ammount of work that had to be done on the 2 that used to be on the Mid hants, both in the restoration and in running repairs .was very heavy, the S160 spent more time needing repairs than in traffic and the WD needed a lot of work when it moved to the moors

They would be in little better shape than an ex barry loco and would not be easy or cheep to restore the only good bit would be that it might still have its motion and non ferrus parts but these often were in very poor condition and might only be suitable for patterns

Why would their condition be any worse than those of the Turkish 8fs ? and 45160 seems a good one.
It seems odd that because people think it's complete they must be gifted an perfect engine ?.. it will need an overhaul as the reason it was withdrawn is because it's knackered. However comparing the Turkish 8f to 48173... I know which one I'd prefer as a starting point and the Turkish one's were probably cheaper as well.
If someone wanted a mechanically complete WD 2-10-0 and tender I'd imagine it'd be theres for £30k.. maybe less, saw some pictures of one taken a few months ago.. they look ok to me... just tired and need an overhaul... two of them were operating as charter engines for OSE until just recently.

Steel fireboxes as well, so even if a new firebox is needed it should be relatively inexpensive. 3672 had to have a major firebox rebuild at Grosmont shortly after it arrived there, but I don't remember it taking all that long to do and it then gave ten years and over 100,000 miles more or less trouble free service.

Saggin-if you hadn't mentioned them first - I would have! Take a look at this link-not just Thessalonika. I am particularly interested in the 'Mikes'-I believe these were designed by Col Hill-who of course came up with the Yankee tanks.

How much different is a WD 2-10-0 from a WD 2-8-0?

Would it be a feasible conversion for a recreation job?

Different barrel and firebox for a starter. 2-8-0's had round top 'boxes.
