A record shot from Diggle this morning, 34067 was going well and bang on time on the climb to Standedge.

37mph at Marsden on the return, 39 into the tunnel. Max was 78 near Sandbach before sitting outside Crewe for 10 minutes.

The new schedule is an absolute stagger! It's quite easy to see where the time has been added in.

    Eh up all !

Heres my very humble effort from Diggle and Marsden yesterday, thwarted by screaming kids (not mine ! ) clickey shutters and dozy photters staggering around !! Nothing new, but dont think i've seen the Marsden shot on here before, especially with that much whistling !

Its made a nice change to have Tangmere on the Flyers, quite a spectacle but not as vocal as a Stanier !

Great updates on Railtourlive and the GPS worked brilliantly, enjoyed tracking her run, made life very easy !.....Matt

I assume that I am the "dozy photter" that you refer to, as I am the only one who can be seen in your clip.

For your information, I was not "staggering around". I was moving to the edge of the platform to attempt to get a pre-planned shot of the train going away, with the loco in the sun for a "glint".

I'm sorry if you feel that I thwarted your effort, but I had positioned myself before your arrival and had always planned to make this move.

Please do not use this site for personal insults to others.

Incidentally, I don't think that the whistling was for our benefit. I suspect it was for the two blokes stood in the grass by the line at the bend before the station.

I noted that your child was extremely well behaved.

I have used that spot several times and posted links on this site to my shots .

Right a couple of points re Tangmere on the SFs>
Firstly the whistles up the valley and at Marsden were for the benefit of Matt and son, arranged with the driver by myself before we left Scarborough.
Secondly, and this might upset a few Southern aficionados, these two runs were the first time I had travelled behind this class and I'm sorry to say although the performance was OK the big drawback... On both runs back, approaching Crewe, as soon as the regulator was shut, at least the first three coaches were filled with smoke, OK so all ther windows were open, but it's a steam special that's what we do. Quite a few of the day trippers complained about this, a fine day out ending with mucky choking smoke.. End of moan..
Anyway she's gone back down south and maybe will stay there.:peep:

.....and much appreciated those whistles were Ralph, i suspect my bar bill with you're good self and the top link at WCRC is getting quite large ! Joshua went to sleep a very happy boy, but still prefers Stanier whistles !

Graham, re' personal insult, you infer i directed the slur at you good self when in fact i was VERY careful where i positioned the fade out of the clip so as NOT to make a "star" out of you ! I fear that your post on the forum raises the fact it was you when actually, had you not raised the point, no-one would have known ! (and neither would i )

Anyway, i appologise for the slur and will buy you a pint by means of compensation. Great pics on your page by the way, top stuff.

    Kind regards,

    Matt.

What a very gracious apology. You are entirely forgiven. I don't actually care whether anyone on the forum knows it's me on the video.

BTW, on my return home, I remarked to my wife that there had been a little boy there with his parents, wearing a hi-viz vest. I commented on how well behaved he had been (so unusual these day, sadly) and that he was a credit to his Mum and Dad. You must be very proud of him.

I'd sooner have a cup of tea rather than a pint, thanks. Thank you for the compliment on my shots.

    Reciprocal regards,

Ralph - smoke can be produced by any loco - not just a spam can - perhaps she just had a dirty fire at the end of a loing day!

In any case - moans about smoke on a steam excursion - says it all about the current market to me!

Yes but Frank she smoked like that most of the day..... it was just that at that time of the evening there was no wind o move it away. Videos from various locations bear this out.

Video of the run past Slaithwaite and Marsden.

Re: RTC Cumbrian Mountain Express Jul-Sep 2011

According to Uksteam info 6201 is in charge of tomorrows run so I might make another trip to the Diggle area again, avoiding the roadworks this time... :car:
