That's probably because they don't wait for due time at the Appleby water stop, top up and go.

Thanks Ralph, best I've had at Olive Mount as she was held at Edge Hill due to a coal train from the docks being allowed out ahead of her so I suspect the crew were trying to make up a bit of time.

I know that feeling well, the sat-nav was trying to take me down some strange back roads in St.Helens...must get those maps updated!

I've given up with using sat nav. Despite having updated the maps on it, it still gets confused at times, such as the A1(M) round Ferrybridge which the sat nav thinks is still fields! At least I know where I went wrong, so I should make it ok next time.

You must have the same satnav as my other half. Gets the same "in a field" warning at the same location.

Just an update on todays run. I have had a message saying the there is a 47 on the front due to 6201's tender derailing at the heritage centre. They are presently at Wilmslow.

Thanks to Ralph for the info.

    Neil.

I just thought it might be useful John as you posted earlier that you were out today. I logged into Railtour live before leaving the house which had given me the update about the 47 and then checked with Ralph for an update. The links from UKSteam info timings pages seem to not work at the moment but the link to the main page works ok here:-

Alarm was set for 3am so I could drive up to Holmes Chapel for a possible sunrise silhouette shot over the viaduct. I'm glad I changed my mind now! Shame it's not Lizzie. Not a good day for the passengers, getting to Crewe at 6am only to find a 47 appear.

When I got to Carnforth, the assembled faithful told me that the CME had gone through without stopping for its timetabled path (some relief for the passengers I guess), so the punters will have longer in Carlisle.

Yes we did John, but we did pause at Greyrigg loop to let something past and again in Penrith. As we will not be making the water stops on the return it is likely that we will be about an hour early to Blackburn and then it will alll depend on available paths and cooperative signallers as to how early we get back to Crewe.
I received the good news at 9.30 that the problem had been sorted and Lizzie was back on all wheels. It would not have been much consolation to those on board so I kept it to myself.

This is getting pathetic, we left Carlisle on time, had a 15 minute stop at Appleby, arrived at Hellifield 1 hour and 10 minute before our departure time. Sat in the loop for 45 minutes then allowed to proceed after the Carlisle Leeds had gone past, the first train we had seen. Held outside Clitheroe as we were now behind the 18.08 service. Now crawlng towards Whalley back on our original due time. If we had been allowed to go 1 hour before due time we would have now been near Chorley...:frusty:

Were there any dining passengers alighting at Blackburn? If so, would there have been time to serve dinner to them if you had continued running 1 hour early?

I believe that had been taken into account but as it happened they needn't have rushed.
