At Hellifield taking water, due out at 10.47 Peter Kirk in charge this morning, climb to Whilpshire a little restrained but the rail was wet..
Now at Carlisle after smooth run over S&C. Word in the suppport coach is that 5305 will be doing next weeks run on the 22nd with 70013 out again on the final one on the 29th.

A wonderful photo., you have every right to be happy/proud of.

Despite the overcast conditions both the Loco. and station buildings are perfectly exposed! Thank you so much for sharing.

As an aside, since I started photographing main line steam around 1980 I don't think I have ever managed to obtain a photograph @ Garsdale in sunny conditions. My norm has been horizontal rain!

What a nice shot you have there, note white hair in back window of third coach......

It was a great run, a good steady performance all the way, on the return Mick Kelly took it fairly steady towards Penrith but after passing the station with the regulator well open and the whistle blowing, I wonder if he knew someone on the station, the pace quickened and the run to Shap summit was well noisy. A regular timer reported no records broken, but are there any records of a 7P on 12 coaches going that way?

I've just been looking at my GPS log for the Carlisle to Carnforth section. From Carlisle start the pace was quite steady with the maximum of 58 being reached through Penrith station, speed then fluctuated with a low of 44 at Thrimby but after this 70013 was opened up and Shap summit was passed at 53mph with Tebay being passed at around 75, dropping to 67 at Dillicar. After this we were quickly back to 70+ which was maintained until we started to slow near Holme for Carnforth where we arrived some 12 minutes up, and were therefore held before crossing into the loop for water.
The last Moorlander is on the 29th and 70013 is already down for that one, so if anyone wants a run south over Shap on that day I'm sure that reasonably priced POTD tickets will be available for that leg.

Nice pics, Adrian, especially the first.
General question - do this year's trains keep the booked departure times from Hellifield, or do they "go when ready" as is normally the case from Appleby? I suppose it depends on whether they either have a scheduled pick-up (such as The Fellsman picking up at Long Preston) or are following a service train.

Thank you. I was planning to see it come out of Blea Moor tunnel into Dent Dale but lack of suitable shoes and the weather made me go to Garsdale. Considering the rain that was on and off all that morning, it came out well and I'm pleased with the result.

It has been scheduled time on both occassions that I have been on board, watering does seem to take most of the allotted time.

Thanks, it is the first one I have seen this year but it followed the limited stop service train if that is any help.
