Alternatively could let NELPG look after him (Peter is a he) given they have a track record of looking after the locomotive, and the expertiese of running said locomotive, on the preserved NYMR and mainline. Sorry but the A1 group would be a long way down the list of people Id let near it if it were mine...

And on colour.... put it back Brunwick green, not everything needs to be Apple green. Tornado did it and tried to steal a march on an out of traffic Flying Scotsman. Talking of paint and line ups.... will just be good to see it back running, but hopefully still up north....

All locos are "she" irrespective of name.

Yes, I still haven't seen this little beauty yet, let alone in steam.

Not everything needs to be Brunswick Green either. As for Tornado trying to steal a march on an out of traffic 4472, what nonsense.

I think it is only been suggested that the A1 trust OVERHAUL the loco, I would be very suprised if the NELPG trust weren't involved in the operation of the loco, much the same as all locos that Jeremy Hosking is involved with, the volunteers stay with the loco. You can't deny that the A1 trust know a thing or two about LNER pacifics, so I think a very good choice to put Blue Peter back where she belongs. I had a fantastic run up Shap behind her in 1997 when I was a lot younger, can't wait to see her back and see if my memories of her are correct. I've been waiting for this news for a long time.

    Is it confirmed then?

If not, we are all getting very excited over something the OP heard from a friend.

60532 Blue Peter was named after a racehorse, which was the winner of the Derby in 1939.

I always thought it was named after what Peter Purves would look like if he choked on a home-made rock cake... I think I'll quit while I'm behind and get my coat! The man's doing well at 72.

Looks as though it will be lost to the NYMR, though, which was previously its home base when not on the main line - a great shame, it was a great engine for the line.

Don't I recall that under the stewardship of NELPG the Durham incident occurred and Blue Peter was "broken" - but then we didn't have the internet, or cretins of the intellectual capacity of "The Black Hat" around to point fingers, and try to allocate blame, as only "editors" could put the word on the street - not that some of them have had anything to their credit from that incident and others.

NELPG got 60532 repaired just as they continue to superbly look after all the other members of their fleet, and its a shame that a new agreement could not be finalised between them and the Drury family. But such is life. But if then had been now we would probably have pages of drivel about how they shouldn't be allowed etc etc!

The A1 Trust started with a blank sheet of paper, and technical specifications from 1947 such as "to be made of best quality steel" How is that translated into 21st Century contract terminology. The A1 has had problems - but she's back - slightly modded to seek a solution whcih may yet prove to be successful long term. Its looking very good so far

I sincerely hope it will because firstly she's a fine loco, and secondly it will put nay sayers like Mr Black Hat finally in their place!

I will simply close by saying that I hope that this thread is not kite flying and that she is coming back. The A1 - A2 - A3 - A4 line up has been missing too long
