No I do not currently volunteer
From what I understand I dont think 60019 was a Kings Cross engine (I could be wrong) but 4492 was and one of the reasons why it was chosen as Bittern's new identity as Roland Kennington I understand wanted a Top Shed Coronation A4.

As webmaster for the Swanage Railway I'd like to confirm that I have been asked by the management of the Swanage Railway to remove the previously authorised news item on the proposed visit of No. 4492 'Dominion of New Zealand' pending final negotiations on the terms of the proposed visit.

I haven't put an announcement on the website regarding the removal of the news item in the hope that it is only a temporary hiccup, but negotiations are continuing.

The Swanage Railway 2011 Gala information page is at http://swanagerailway.co.uk/gala11.htm and this page provides confirmed details of visiting locomotives and attractions. Once negotiations are complete, I will provide a definitive statement on the website re 4492 in advance of the Gala.

    Cheers

    Keith

Cheers Keith for the info. Hope she does attend.

Even if she doesnt am sure the gala will be as good as the others that the railway has organised.
Am very impressed by the way the railway runs and manages its galas. Just a shame that other dont follow the impressive formula that gives a great day out and value for money.
I have only praise for the last 2 diesel galas that I have attended..well done

As webmaster for the Swanage Railway I'd like to update all fellow enthusiasts that the visit of A4 Pacific 4492 'Dominion of New Zealand' is now confirmed for our 2011 Gala to be held 9th to 11th September 2011.

Also confirmed is Great Northern Railway N2 class No. 1744, which appeared in the film 'The Railway Children'.

There is a dedicated information page at http://swanagerailway.co.uk/gala11.htm and tickets may be booked in advance on-line.

All our resident operational locomotives will be in action over the weekend, and full timetable details will be provided on that page prior to the Gala.

    Cheers

Thats a relief......Always one of the best galas. Know age is catching up so dont know if I will be able to last all 3 days.
Is it planned to right upto nearly midnight as in past galas.

Yes it is planned to run to midnight on both Friday and Saturday nights. Both the A4 and the N2 are working the evening trains.
It has been a big, but worthwhile effort for the railway to get this locomotive confirmed, we really hope that you will be able to attend this gala. Big events like this are expensive and complicated to put on and your support is what makes it possible. We really look forward to welcoming you to our railway!
With 7 very different locomotives in traffic this event will be one not to be missed!

    Thanks for the info....

Is it safe to presume that the loco diagrams will be available about a week before just like the diesel galas?

Loco diagrams are complete and proof-read, and should be available on the website imminently.

Whilst there are some nice shots there, some of them appear to be to be taken the wrong side of the line on the platform? Is it wise having them on the website?

Thats an incredible document - a real working timetable unlike that which is claimed to be by some other railways. Also unusual is that the full wtt is released online, for free, before the "normal" public one! Full marks!

Totally agree. It is not unusual for the Swanage to publish their WTT on line and free....its the norm of their diesel galas.

Sometimes I dont think that they get the credit that they deserve....

    Hi All

A4 Pacific No. 4492 'Dominion of New Zealand' arrived successfully onto the Swanage Railway via the main line at Wareham yesterday, and I've just added a 100-photo news item at http://swanagerailway.co.uk/news769.htm . There are some superb photos there, and they give a flavour of what Gala visitors may expect.

Thanks for the positive comments on our 15-page Working Timetable for the Swanage Railway's 2011 Steam Gala which is now available on the website via our dedicated info page at http://swanagerailway.co.uk/gala11.htm and you'll see that there's an intensive schedule for A4 Pacific No. 4492 'Dominion of New Zealand' plus visiting Great Northern Railway N2 class No. 1744 and all our resident locos:
ex-SR Battle of Britain Class Bulleid Pacific No. 34070 'Manston'

    ex-LSWR Drummond M7 "53" (30053)
    ex-GWR 56xx Class "6695"
    ex-BR Standard 4MT 80104
