I think the point people took issue with was not the fact that red is pre and green is post nationalisation, but that as we will be seeing it in red, which suits it superbly, for most of the boiler ticket it seemed a shame to present it as an option for this 'come on let's have a bit of variety' poll the PRCLT kindly presented us with.

But as I say, why shouldn't people vote for their preferred livery just because it will be going into that livery after 12 months? Surely if you're going to have a livery poll, it makes sense to include all of the key variations of livery the loco carried?

I hasten to add I'm playing devil's advocate to an extent, as it doesn't actually bother me either way what colour it is. I just think the criticism of red being an option is a bit odd.

Superb news to see it will go into BR green, let's hope it might do an excursion or two down to the south east so us southerners can get a chance of seeing the loco.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that the green livery will be for at least 12 months.....

I'd like that too. Sadly never been behind or even seen 6233 (I saw 6229 at the NRM but that was about 13 years ago) so a visit to the South East would be most welcome either in Brunswick or LMS Red. However I think I asked about something like it here once before and I think gauging was an issue.

Yeah Kent seems to have a few problems with some locos. Not sure which parts of Sussex though. On the Brighton Line in recent years we've had 34067, 60019, 70000, 70013, 44871 and 44932 but not sure what to draw on that. Height wise a Duchess should be OK for the Brighton Line as the bridges and tunnels tend to be quite tall but maybe the width or weight of the loco could cause problems.

The latest issue of Railway Herald says 6233 will be in green for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of two years.
They also understand that it will carry the early BR crest.

Not if you are already dedicated to putting it in red for nine years of a ten year ticket...so what - everyone votes for red, it goes into red, and - as per their own rules of the poll - they rub it down and refresh the red livery after a year in it? I don't think so...

The objection isn't against the livery itself. It's the principle of the voting system which included it, knowing full well it would go into that livery in any event in a year's time. That's the objection: not the colour or the livery but that no change was a possible option on what should been a goodwill poll to those who wanted something different for a single year of this locomotive's life in service over the next decade.

But it'll "completely ruin" my video of it when it comes round a sharp curve and you first see one side then the other. I wish they'd just gone with LMS Red, then at least it wouldn't be a botch job just to suit the crest warriors :p

Why stop there? Why not different names and running numbers as well? Or do a "Hamilton" and paint one side green and one side red? :bolt:

Oh it can't be that simple - what's the betting the shade of green, or the lining out, or the style of numbering, or grade of box oil changed?

Why not? I reiterate, some people like pre-nationalisation liveries. These days, they seem to be 'something different'. Why should enthusiasts for those liveries be excluded from a vote on the livery the locomotive is going to be? Whether the loco is repainted after 12 months or not is irrelevant, if red had won then it would have won fair and square according to the rules of the poll.

If it was a goodwill poll, as you put it, then again why should the PRCLT disregard the goodwill of those who like a particular livery? Just because it doesn't please the 'if it moves, paint it BR' brigade doesn't mean its not an entirely valid choice of livery for the loco. I would think it was more a case of part goodwill and part a way of fundraising for what is inevitably not a cheap overhaul, and that, together with raising interest in the loco, it has succeeded very well.
