According to the Heritage Railway story on "Triassic" moving to Statfold Barn, sister engine "Vicozoic" was shipped to Canada in 1959. Does anyone know what its current status is? Another one to try to bring back, perhaps?

If my memory is correct it is believed to be in the Mathews Estate collection with a number of other ex UK loco's.

As for it returning, who knows. A number of people have tried to contact them if I recall. I am sure there is an old thread on here somewhere, but I am not sure where.

Can anyone expand a little more on this collection? I've done a bit of a search but haven't found anything on it.

This was taken from the previous topic that I started awhile ago, It seems they were bought, shipped over and stored.......what a waste!!

Ohhh but we could start the whole Three engine identity involving King of the Scarletts, Maid Marian and Velinheli..... whos who?? haha

Some of these (KofS and Michael ) also appear in the Cliff Thomas Book Quarry Hunslets of North Wales....Brilliant Book.....
Might need updating a bit now though with so many that have returned home haha

That lot would make a nice start for another garden railway like Statfold Barn! It sounds like the Canadian Collection X though......

Theres quite a collection there, including some road steam stuff of more interest to me than to you lads I suspect.

I'm told the Mathews brothers are nice men, but are no idiots. They know exactly what they have, and how much it is worth. I'm told they subscribe to most of our heritage magazines for example.

Some of their collection has been sold, but having been bitten during the sale of a road steam vehicle where the eventual buyer told them porky pies I believe that they are now less likely to sell items.

The items that have been sold are often to long time friends, or someone deserving who can provide backup about what they say they want to do with it. For example quite a few years ago they let a Fowler ploughing engine (steam) go to the gent who has its original pair. Another friend in Ireland has had a few items from them, but he has family links in Canada and is a long time friend of the Mathews brothers.

The idea that they will sell their collection to any 'tom', 'dick' or 'harry' is mistaken

Most of the items in the collection are in what can probably be best described as 'original condition', my personal feeling is that perhaps they are best left where they are. They are in secure dry storage. All you 'railway enthusiasts' only want either a) to 'play' with them, or b) to photograph them.

And once you do this you will then all argue untill you are blue in the face about what colour paint they should have. LOL

I'm also told that access to the collection is possible, you just need to demonstrate that you have a genuine and specific interest in a specific item in the collection. That is to say just wanting access so you can take pictures of everything there will not even get you a reply, let alone an invite to visit.
