    Chums,
Despite looking beyond shabby it is my understanding that 8f 48173 is being restored at the Churnet Valley Railway following its move from Bitton. Any news at all? Just curious, well alright...downright nosey :)

Been painted lined brunswick green, coupled to a Collet tender and is on the 12.10pm up! Not photographing it because it isn't black

I think you will have to wait until S160 6046 and possibly 5197 are running before work starts on 48173, i do know a lot of parts have been aquired, and a strip down took place a few years ago

If it needs a tender, I'd suggest looking at the 8f going for scrap in turkey, I'd imagine that 8f would yield a few useful spares, the front wheels are supposed to be going to the patriot.

6046 looked pretty much complete when I was at Cheddleton last month, can't be far from steaming now...?

Its supposed to be ready before the years out. if you go on cvrs website it does say that there hoping to have trains going towards Endon on the leekbrook to stoke section. So i would presume that would mean using 5199, George Stevenson (its going back there till march) and 6046 if its ready. Also as there isnt a loop at endon the trains would need to be top and tailed just like the Cauldon Lowe specials last year. i dont know if this would be both steam or mixed with diesels? Im waiting for an announcement in oct or nov (this im presuming is when it would be announce with dates) so keep checking on the website i guess. Also Greg wilson who owns the s160s and 8f does come on here sometimes. dont know his user name tho otherwise you could PM him.

Now at the ELR minus one wheelset, which has been used on 42765's tender. Forget about trying to restore it. As they have found with the tenders for 44123 and the new Patriot, the frames are very badly corroded.

The only parts we're keeping are 2 axle boxes and a few handles and bits and bobs. And of course the wheel sets. The frames and tender tank are useless.

But Stuart are you still looking for a tender. I told you before if its for the j39 you need to build a new correct one not an lms or gwr or any other type that isn't correct for a j39.

J39, wouldn't that v2 tender at Doncaster be good for a j39 ? (it's probably rotten through, but may provide some spares..)

Do you not understand what the recent posts have said. Let me reiterate. there are three Fowler 3500gall tenders about at the moment. One at the ELR, one at Barry (Patriot) and one at the Avon Valley (44123). The tenders a la Patriot and 44123 are in scrap only condition, with only certain removable components being re-used on new tenders. I have inspected the tender at the ELR myself and that is in exactly the same condition as the other two.

So you're going to ask people to donate money to your group so that you can buy a tender you can't use?

Then ask for further donations to restore it, prior to selling it on before starting on something that is of use to your project?

Not going to happen. Concentrate on what your project needs. You don't see all the other new builds restoring items they can't use.
