Ralph, I agree with your comment here. Thanks to the actions (or perhaps in-actions) of one person on 2nd. September expect many more pathing difficulties on The ECML in the foreseeable future or Steam locomotives rostered for ECML failed on the FTR Exam. for the most spurious of reasons.

When a loco fails its FTR it is not for a spurious reason........but it may be that the fence height is changed to something that is very challenging

I'm not the best person to respond on this but I believe it is whoever will provide the crew. The loco owner may separately undertake something of their own beforehand.

A suitably qualified person appointed by the Operating Company (ie DBS or WCRC).

Well the headline on the front of the latest Heritage Railway mag is quite clear "MidWeek ECML Steam Ban" or words to that effect. Apparently no steam is allowed on the ECML from 1201 on Monday till 2359 on Friday until further notice. Don't know how accurate this is as I don't normally read that magazine.

If that's true then it explains why this Friday's Cathedrals Express to York couldn't run and is nothing to do with restrictions on any type of loco. As the White Rose last week was a Saturday job I would hope that the story of a failed FTR was true and nothing to do with ECML politics.
