A political brake problem! I can assure you I know what I am talking about.

I suggest reading the latest Heritage Railway magazine which details the problem - Network Rail has banned steam on the ECML between 00:01 Monday - 23:59 Friday. Details of the ban and alternative options are detailed on Page 6 and Editor's Comment on Page 3 amplify the news.

So why have people been banging on about it's only an A4 that can't be pathed midweek?

It may explain why the return of Deltic 55 55022 was made via Carlisle and the WCML rather than its outward route via York and the ECML.

    Didn't realise a Deltic was a steam loco. :)

How does a ban on steam locos affect diesel locos?

Correction to my previous comment:-The NYMR loco that failed yesterday (27th) was 49395, NOT 92214. The 9F is fully operational, and has just past me with steam to spare. See today's comment on the NYMR website re Bittern's NON appearance at the autumn gala.

Sad news. I am sure lessons have been learnt from the unfortunate one-off event earlier this month. Hopefully given time NR will reconsider this ban, but in the meantime the movement should take it with good grace and prove ourselves worthy of such a reconsideration.

Haven't read the article, but does the ban apply to locos under tow in light steam?

So are you saying that there is nothing wrong with 60019?

There's a photo of Bittern in issue 284 of the railway herald, page 15. Missing the E on the RHS of the tender.

Typical, a rubbish southern engine screws up everything for the decent Eastern region machines to prosper....

Congratulations, you've just made one of the dafter posts in this thread.

Apparently the A4 is to gain a more authentic whistle, coming on loan from New Zealand.

The one fitted to the original 4492 was a much deeper tone to the standard A4 chime so will be an interesting variation.

Silly posting, and it was hardly the Locomotive that was at fault!

Did anyone notice that Roland Kennington has confirmed that he has been "suspended" from his position?

Should arrive to the MHR on Thursday. A shame she isn't working service trains this coming weekend with 60163.

    FTR:-

    Is it in gauge?
Will it stay on the rails?
Is anything about to fall off it?
    Do the brakes work?
    Does AWS/TPWS work?
Is the OTMR "Healthy" lamp lit?

    That's about it.
No mention of pre-grouping/pre-nationalisation heritage, no mention of livery, no mention of how "original" is may or may not be.
