    No worries

It does have a while booked at Banbury so there is a chance it could be held to time, but it got away early from Hinksey/Oxford

    Thanks - appreciate the compliment

The intended shot would have been incredible - such is rail photography :)

Through Hatton at 22:02, over 40 early! Thanks again David for your update - out there in the dark it was a truly awesome spectacle in the full moon light with the mist beginning to come down. The sound gradually rising away in the distance, then suddenly it was there and we were covered in steam. Then it had gone and the smoke trail was still hanging in the air 10 minutes after the train had gone past. Magic!

    Heyford this morning.

South Moreton. I'd set up expecting it to be on the relief, so was a bit surprised to see it on the main, hence why the back of the exhaust is missing.

Newton St Loe this evening, about 15 minutes after sunset.

As can be seen from BillR's video, the loco shut off at Crofton, for no real reason it seems. The thick black exhaust dropped down behind the loco and the shot looks awful! Still, win some lose some.

I was informed that a photographer had made an earlier arrangement with the crews for black smoke. Unfortunately they managed to cock it up.
From the hillside it didn't notice but from the towpath I can appreciate that it was not so good from that particular angle.

The other shots are very nice. A superb day weatherwise. <BJ>

Which reminds me of the day a couple of photters in Germany asked for an oil fired 01.10 pacific driver on the Westerland-Hamburg line to shove some sand into the fire, (used to clean oil and muck out from tubes!), for the usual spectacular result from the chimney. All worked to plan, except the location! It is believed the Frau who had hung her washing out is still trying to get the thick residue of oil etc off it over 40 years later!

PS. Some damn good shots above.

I'd just like to say thank you all for your kind comments about my video.
@campainr I had the towpath to myself because I hadn't washed for two months :) Nah only joking, everyone seemed to be by the lock gates & up on the hillock, must have been getting on for a hundred there.

Cheers Steve. I probably passed you at Heyford. I got there about 20 minutes before the train was due and had to run along the tow path. Not easy when it was that cold!

I was just back at the station by then. Met one guy on the towpath and managed to save him a trip to the the canal bridge.
