first posting here but im wondering if anyone can answer a question for me.

Having a few hours free yesterday i went to have a look at the Dean Forest railway, Its only 45mins from home but ive not been for years. I was very impressed with Parkend station, and was wondering if there are any plans to reconect the siding that served the goods shed. I can remember being taken to the staion when i was a kid when the sidings across the road were full of wagons. Whilst i understand that it may not be pratical or possible to reinstate the sidings across the road, i could not see anything stopping the sidings within the station boundry being relaid, a couple of restored wagons being parked on them, a displays etc showing how the goods shed would have been used.
i know i should have asked when i was there but its one of those questions that come to you ather the event

    many thanks

    Del

ps, does anyone know of any groups that support Parkend station, the DFR website dosnt have much info and is a bit out of date

There is a group called Friends of Parkend Station that maintain and run the station. They are relaying the line to the goods shed currently with another siding, the one point has already been installed but is not yet connected.

unfortunately not, if you ring the DFR I'm sure they will give you a direct number to ring Parkend station or so you can get in contact with the right people.

Yes I am an active volunteer
I presume that you were referring to the Marsh sidings which were across the road from the station, past the Fountain Inn and in the direction of Coleford? The sidings were last used for the transport of ballast brought from Whitecliff quarry (If I remember correctly) by road and were also used by the DFR to store some stock briefly in the early days (4150 was there for a while?)
