If that's true then as the revised route was publicised after the tunnel incident in March (and presumably agreed with NR) it might have helped for someone to say that the revised itinerary wasn't possible. Or is that too much to ask?

My point exactly about the disconnect between NR Charter Unit and NR Gauging and Timing teams!

When you can't trust the owner of the National Network what chance have you got? - yet time and again Network Rail appears a few hours before a charter that has been arranged with, and through them for months, and says "Oh - sorry chaps - we were talking out of our rear end again, and were never in a position to supply this route / timing / capcity to accommodate requested stock" and everyone runs round like blue axxxd wotsits to recover the position instead of putting them in court for the £50 to £60k put on the line by their perennial, repeated and easily provable from experience incompetence.

It really is time that they were held up to the ridicule they so richly deserve for this state of affairs and made to be as responsible for their actions in the tour supply chain as any other party.

The tour establishment keep poo pooing the idea of an industry forum - but one day repeated situations like this will force the issue

Incidentally RTC had an advert in this morning's Metro including Bolton

Problem as I see it Frank, who is going to risk the costs and time involved in taking on NR. I appreciate that the result would probably go against them but it's still a big ask. So yes an industry body is a must be the industry seem reluctant to consider one.

The truth, Ralph, is that its personal egos on the line. Everyone is playing with his "own" bit of the train set which they jealously guard, without realising that if they don't play together nicely that the whole layout is going to fail.

Jaw Jaw is better than War War was the old saying.

Having received no further emails or letters from RYTC since the first change of route, I am now, beginning to wonder what is going on. Will it come via Wigan, or via Bolton?

Looks like Wigan and then via Golborne to Man Vic. David R is seldom wrong!

The times on uksteam.info are now showing as to be confirmed ( http://uksteam.info/tours/t11/t1105a.htm ) which I don't think they were before and the link from the tour listing has changed to a - suggesting the times/route could change

This train now seems to be steam hauled throughout including Manchester Victoria - Lancaster on the return. Also it is now taking the unusual route between Preston and Bolton via Wigan and Crows Nest Jn. on the outward journey.

Crows Nest will be new for me with steam. Just a little consolation for the dramatic revisions to the original route that was the purpose of my journey north to travel on this trip and prebooking travel/accommodation to do so. Without Nat Pres/Steam Tours info I would have been blissfully unaware of the changes as RTC hasn't yet told me that we are going to the same destination but via elsewhere on the return. So nothing new there then.

I'm looking at going to see this special near Chinley. Can anyone recommend any locations near here for photographs?
