Following the end of the main running season, we take a look back at the busy return of the only surviving Midland Railway 4F!

Seems to be a generation gap on this one !

43924 came from the series 43835 - 44026 built by the Midland Railway to a Fowler Design between 1911-22. After the grouping the design was modified and perpetuated by the London Midland Scottish Railway (formed as part of the 1923 Grouping) with 44123 built as part of batch [4]4037 - [4]4216 between 1924-26 whilst 44423 was built as part of batch [4]4400 - [4]4446 in 1927.
If enthusiasts can't get the builders' nomenclature right I do hope they are better qualified should they become involved in the operation and maintenance of any of the trio - especially given the "minor" changes made to the post-Grouping series.

I wouldn't worry too much about what Fred says. On another forum he mentioned photographing Class 40s and the rare Class 82/1 electrics at Warrington in the early 1990s. His historical information is questioned quite frequently.

I also solved the mystery of the "Worcester Ghost" in the 1980s but that was also a little before your time - methinks.
