I think the Wolf of Badenoch is a brilliant name. I have a model of it on my mantlepiece. Since locos are traditionally female I don't think she'll do a lot of raping.

And She -Wolf of Badenoch wouldnt be Historically, or Politically correct ?

I like 'Nimrod' - aircraft conection, funny front end connection, scottish (Raf Kinloss ?) connection Nice name and described in the Bible as 'a mighty one upon the earth'

Also 'Vulcan' but a little bit P2 Unrelated

    Angus-Og?

has a locomotive ever been named 'OVS Bulleid' whose hand was definitely in on this design ? or even 'Chapeleon' whose ideas were first tried out in britain on this design ?

All this is of course conjecture and anyone who comes up with a decent name with a big Cheque attatched to it will no doubt win the day.

As it would most likely spend most of its time south of the border, how about.. "The Young Pretender".

21C123 Blackmoor Vale runs now and again (or rather, ran...) as OVSB, normally in connection with his birthday. To quote the Bulleid Society website:

There is a photo in HAV Bulleid's book showing this nameplate in 1963 (without crest, and without the "S" initial). According to HAVB, his copy of the photo was endorsed "Please return. Should not be seen outside the family. OVB."

Exellent. As in my post on the last page about names from Scott's novels 'Cock o' the North' is from one of his books. Stirring names.
    LNWR names were good too.

Right. So all we have to do now is build it.

I suppose we'd better decide what colour we're going to paint it...my vote is for BR experimental dark blue with red lining.

I think that the future P2, painted in BR experimental dark blue, would shine wonderfully !

I suppose one could argue that it would be accurate, as it is possible that, if the class had made it to the British Railways days, they would have perhaps been given that livery.

Coming back to the main topic though, now if you've seen me rant about the P2s before, then you'll be more then aware that I'm all for it...! Bring on the feasiblity study results I say! Although I know theres no guarantee... But you never know...

I've always been fond of the P2s ever since a couple of years ago, when I came across it, in an old book that I found, called: O.S.Nock's Pocket Encyclopedia of BRITISH STEAM RAILWAYS & LOCOMOTIVES.

It has some great coloured drawing of many locos. I remember when I first looked through it, so many familar designs, yet I found a loco that looked like an A4... Except it had 4 sets of driving wheels and it was named Wolf of Badenoch... I was curious, so I investigated further and learned much about the class, little did I know that I had fallen in love with the P2 class at first sight of it in that book... Although I'll add that I like the apearance of 2001 the best.

Perhaps "Enigma" would be a suitable name. The original "Enigma" of the LCDR was so called because Martley, her designer, said it was his enigma that she was ever finished.

I've probably said it before, but I think "Bonnie Prince Charlie" would be apposite, firstly for the obvious Scottish connection, but secondly due to Prince Charles's affinity to Tornado - imagine the PR possibilities royal patronage would bring to the project :)

One can see the obvious benefits of a Royal Connection, but personally i think 'Bonnie Prince Charlie' sucks (sorry sheff), names with adjectives in are awkward from a marketing point of view; Duke of Cornwall ? ( Edinburgh?) or even Prince of Wales ? Windsor Lad/ (or Lass) ?
Can Picture it in wartime matt black with 'Blackadder' on the name plate though...

It's be a long plate, I'll give you that! I think you need to stick with the Scottish theme though myself, give the loco's parentage.

Yes, but if Bonnie Prince Charlie had had his way, Britain would now have an entirely different Royal family. You might as well ask HRH if he'd like to become a patron of 70013! :rolleyes1:

How about "Deep fried Mars bar" - that's a Scots connection. Seriously though, I prefer the name of a dark character from the novels of Sir Walter Scott..
