70013 ran from KX to Lincoln on 3rd Dec with no diesel,and on the same day 70000 ran Euston/Chester on WCML again no diesel.So there really is no knowing if you are going to get one on the back or not. As has been debated ad infinitum on this forum seems to be more if the box is required to shunt the stock at destination,then it will go on back to save a light engine path

 

Thanks Ralph. I'd thought about going sunny side for the glint but with the wind gusting from the SW, it only needed a gust at the wrong moment and the exhaust would have blown down and spoiled the shot. I played safe and went for the silhouette.

 

I wouldn't say it was playing safe, they are difficult at the best of times but your plan worked to perfection.

Looked like they were sticking to the 40pmh restriction for A4s on the up slow this evening. Trundled through Sandy at 21.00.

 

Brakes jammed on between Arlesey and Hitchin. Oh dear!

 

Now at Stevenage. FCC service stuck behind.

Staggering south. Last report received was of it crawling over Digswell viaduct at 22:31. Footplate crew working very hard on the fire during an extended stop at Stevenage according to an eye witness.
