    Hi,

I'm making '4SUB' trailer ADB977364 available for sale if anyone is interested? Reason for selling is a small thing called a house!! It has had full asbestos removal but retains the tanks from it's days as a de-icing coach (last used on the network in 2004). The bodysides are in good condition but the roof requires total replacement. It is fitted with a parking brake.

Would there be any interest in an ex GWR hopper wagon?

    Would that be this one?

NER DE 131 Coke Hopper built 1893 (Yes, I know it says NER hopper, but I don't see which other hopper on the NYMR it could be)

Might be worth contacting GWS at Didcot or the GWR 813 group, both of whom might be interested.

Is the original GWR number known? It is quite likely to be stamped into the underframe somewhere, probably on the left hand end when facing it.

Thats the one. GWR number not known but will check when next I see it.
As I understand it, it is to GWR P6 or P7 design but modified with higher sides in later industrial use.
We bought it from Rowntree's in York. How it got there is another question.
I cannot see any other GWR hoppers listed as preserved, is this correct?

I am not aware of any other preserved GWR hoppers, so that would make it unique.

Here is a photo taken in may 1981 just prior to despatch of 131 and 2 others from Rowntrees in York.
They are modified by higher sides.

The weight is around 9.25 tonnes with the extended sides.
The other 2 wagons were disposed of a number of years back due to corrosion. The underfames of at least 1 however have been reused, I believe, under the NYMR cattle wagon.
The second photo shows it after repaint in 1985.

It doesn't appear to have a GWR style brake but this could be a later mod.

Probably done at the same time as the extended sides at Rowntrees in York.
It also has vac brakes fitted about the same time.

I'm not well up enough on wagons to really comment, however, the fitting of vac brakes intrigued me. I can't see any logic in it being fitted for use by Rowntrees. They were for internal use afaik but I'm fairly sure that the Rowntree locos were never so fitted. Intriguing; for me, anyway. 2+2 is not adding up to 4.

Following the death of one of its members last year, the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway have been asked by the family, to dispose of his rolling stock on their behalf. The items that are up for sale are 4 vintage carriages, all needing various levels of work to bring them back up to passenger carrying standards.

    The items are:

GWR 231, a clerestory Brake First Open built 1896. At one stage used as the Newport Engineers Saloon and preserved in 1967, originally at the South Devon Railway.GWR 231 Clerestory Brake First Open built 1896

LSWR 1357 'Ironclad' Brake Third Corridor built 1923. heavily modified as a Staff & Tool coach by British Railways.
LSWR 1357 'Ironclad' Brake Third Corridor built 1923

SR 4958 Post Office Tender Vehicle built 1939. Substantially intact, originally preserved at the Mid Hants Railway as a workshop extension.
SR 4958 Post Office Tender Vehicle built 1939

LSWR 70 Restaurant Composite built 1907. Originally built as a clerestory coach, the clerestory was removed in 1931. In 1943 it was converted to an ambulance coach and saw service on the Longmoor Military Railway. LSWR 70 Restaurant Composite built 1907

Also available for sale is a GWR restaurant coach chassis that is no longer required by the railway.

Expressions of interest should be sent via email to events@pbrly.co.uk with a closing date of the 31st May for all offers.

    regards
    Alistair

It was fitted with vac pipes by the NYMR in the mid 80s in order that it could be attached to the rear of service trains when conveying shed ash from Grosmont to New Bridge. I don't think that it lasted very long in this job however as I only saw it at the MPD once.

Yes I believe so, assuming I've got the right wagon. However it is not really my place to say where it's headed, sorry!
