Great to see RTC offering affordable steam out of Bristol on summer sundays again!

The alternative to turning 34067 at Westbury was done in October 2007 with 777 and some years before that with 73096 (I think)
Turning a loco at Westbury involves running to Bradford Jn , reversing then running to to Heywood Road Jn and reversing again, then back to Westbury. This normally would take about an hour. The alternative is to attach a DL to the country end of the train on arrival at Westbury. DL hauled via Warminster to Salisbury and Laverstock South Jn, reverse again and depart steam hauled towards Andover.

    Cheers, Neil

So either way this would appear not be a tidy operation and therefore unlikely to pass the NR test. Good to see that everything has been thought through well in advance then.

Timewise there isn't a great difference between turning at Westbury and going via Bristol.

I agree. You can get from Taunton to Westbury via Bristol and end up facing the right way in about the time you might take on the direct route plus a turn. But RTC says they are going via Castle Cary and this still looks a bit messy to me. I'd like to be clear exactly how they will do this (and with what else) before booking. Full marks for initiative though but that's not enough in this financial climate, I am afraid.

I aplogise if this has been said, but the r.t.c brochure came through the post yesterday. It's looks a very smart brochure, glossy and professional. Needless to say I'm impressed and it's a good thing for Steam. Not often I post on here but I thought it was good enough to mention. (before anyone says I don't work for them either) cheers all.

RTC have been going a while now and have the track record to deserve being taken seriously. I was very impressed with their Bristol to Weymouth trips last summer. Not afraid to break, and establish, new ground.

I was glad to see Blaenau Ffestiniog is being covered again this summer; very worthwhile line in spite of past difficulties. Now, as I approach retirement I should find the time to go on one of these and cover this classic branch line in the proper way.

No, I don't work for them either and I'm not on commission!

Dont know whether it's mentioned elsewhere but 'The Waverley' has the tantilising line 'possibly LMS jubilee Galatea' amongst its locomotive pool.
