Times are on UKsteam for the 2 x Class 5 tour on 28 January. Just about light enough for photography away from Bolton, but getting a bit late on the mountain section of the S&C. unless it's brilliant day.

    Re: Winter CME's, February 2012.

well I'm glad somebody mentioned it, apart from Mike1522, hope it don't get cancelled through lack of interest, first I've booked on for a few years, and its double headed, unlike all the others, and I've now got a smart phone, whatever that is, so hopefully see a few faces from the north west as it starts and ends here, also unlike the others. I mean a pair of Ian Riley's black fives, dream come true, cheers.

Looking at those times I should be able to see this at perhaps Horwich Parkway and then on the climb to Shap before I work the late shift.

I know Ribblehead in the light on the return is great for the punters, but there is nothing quite like waiting for steam at the top of Mallerstang when its gone dark and everyone has left, in atrocious Midland weather. Its just sort of how it should be really. Remember Maggie Rose in such conditions in the 90's, it was pitch dark and the hail was going side ways. Magic!! Then went to the Moorcock for a pint to dry out and warm up:biggrin1:

It will be interesting to see how the bookings go for the Feb runs from London.

And as an added bonus it appears that the section from Citadel to Upperby Jc is being used as a test run for 45690 as well - happy days.

    Note:
    a) I know its a typo
    b) I am joking
    c) This is in know way any form of insult to UKsteam who do the most fantastic job ever!!

I'm all set for the tour, even if one of the members coming with us has double booked and is now having to rearrange a job that he has booked last week. Should be a good day out! Weather on BBC shows dark clouds all day with rain. Sounds fun...

Forecast for Cumbria for Friday is snow, with sun on Saturday. Hmmm, 500 mile drive for 1 shot...?

Indeed, but three or even four shots ought to be possible? 1) around Bolton/Preston (i.e. before Barton loop and Carnforth water stops); 2) around Greenholme/Shap; 3) northern section of S&C; 4) somewhere like Langho, under station lights. Provided the M6 is fairly clear, Kirby Stephen to Whalley is do-able without breaking the speed-limit. Alternatively, if the weather's clear, one could try a silhouette on Ribblehead viaduct and a station shot at Hellifield (is the goods loop on the Settle side of Hellifield station?)
