7819? 5572? I'd double check those two if I were you! I can't remember either of those coming to see us, and I think I might have noticed a Manor! The one you did miss is 7752, which came to us on loan from Tyseley, and I suspect that was the one you meant!

My memory for ths sort of information is normally pretty good, but it seems on this occasion it must be playing tricks on me. For some reason, I thought I could remember 7819 visiting the KESR in lined black BR livery, and being surprised that the line's axle loading was able to accomodate such an engine. I am quite happy to stand corrected. Maybe it was wishful thinking!

You may have been thinking of Ivatt 2MT 46443 (or was it 46441) which visited in the 1990's in BR Lined Black.

Quite right Martin-in total agreement with you. Also we need to take into account the overwhelming surfeit of GW locos that arrived at Woodham's. Some only had to travel from the local shed at Barry! For those getting into Barry scrapyard loco restoration just now,in one way the ravages of time have made it pretty grim-but in another there couldn't be a better time. No longer is there such a thing as 'project impossible'-the whole industry has re-invented itself for compatibilty with the 21st century. With new builds commonplace-it's all down to money and wisdom with your resources... and setting a plan that is hard hitting with built in flexibility and potential for diversity.

4253 Ltd has this knack-watch that space at the front of the shed at Rolvenden!

By the way Martin-have a good day Sunday-good to see you back at the Dept where your heart is!

7819 would have a lower axle loading than either 6619 or 3440 if I remember correctly.

Thanks moff, as a shareholder myself, i thought i had better get stuck in :) its been a few years since i did my last ex barry job, i think it must have been 73096 , needlegunning the main frames , how i would love to see her or 31806 outside the shed at rolvendon simmering away both very strong locos.

Restoring a barry wreck once you have it apart isnt any different than doing any other full overhaul, very often it might be in better condition than an industrial thats been worked till it failled , especially in cases such as 4253 where it potensially did little work from when it was last overhauled by Swindon, and being withdrawn , of course you have to find the motion parts and non ferrus fittings that have long since gone, but i understand that the former owner had something of a stockpile of spares for his collection of engines and that other owners of ex GW engines have offered parts also, this shows what is best about preservationists , helping each other out, not allowing the internal politics of what ever railway you might belong to get in the way, and lets face it we all have those dont we?

Reference axle loadings on he KESR-what you have to remember is that a class 33 diesel has been operating on that line for many years.

Panniers allocated to 73H Dover (sub shedded at Folkestone Junction ) for use on the Harbour Branch were.....3633,4601,4610,4616,4626,4630,4631and 4692. 3633 was only used for a very short time and then cannibalised for spares. It stood in the back of the shed still adorning its 87C (Danygraig) shedplate until 3 weeks after steam ended in East Kent and was then towed to Ashford by a Class 33.

David. Being a Folkestone man until leaving for permanent sunshine, I can tell you that the first picture your Dad took was at Folkestone Junction and the second one was at the Harbour Station crossing gates. The first picture is one of the best I have seen of 4692, which was one of the more rarely photographed Loco's.

Hmm, very bad attack of Microsoftitis there. Not readable on my system. Suggest they go back to posting PDFs.

It can be downloaded and read using Word 2010 (and I presume Word 2007 and anything else capable of opening the docx format). But I agree pdf would be better.

How do you get a word file from this link? It opens up a zip file which seems to contain the components of a web page.

I can read .DOCX files, but the link leads to a zip file which opens an XML file and subdirectories.
