The BWR has confirmed that LSWR '02' Class W24 Calbourne from the Isle of Wight Steam Railway will be visiting the line for this event. This will be the first occasion that the loco will have been seen on the mainland since 1925!

The 02 Class were once a regular sight in the Bodmin area working predominantly local passenger trains between Padstow, Wadebridge and Bodmin North. Don't miss the chance to see an 02 back in Cornwall for the first time for over 50 years!

Put the date in your diary....

Not to be missed! The BWR are always coming up with something different - bringing a loco over from the IoW must be expensive, so plenty of support will be appropriate. I wonder whether an O2 might have got down to Bodmin General and Bodmin Road (now Parkway) in the days of regular steam working. I know that around the early 60s at least, there was some mixing of SR and WR workings on this line.

Well, I've put this one in the diary! What a coup for Bodmin! An 02 on the mainland genuinely beats having the Olympics in London for me. I'm probably on my own with that one?

No, I think a lot of people are sick of the Olympics already, and will be looking for other things to occupy themselves.

The website states that it will be a chance to see 3 LSWR victorian designs working together.
So I am presuming the T9 and Well tank are also intended to be in action? It does sound good.

    That's an impressive line up.

I wonder if any of the other mainland lines are taking up the opportunity to hire Calbourne?

As if I would do such a thing Martin! No, current plan is actually phot 741 120, the Crosti 2-8-0 in Italy on the Saturday on an RTC tour before flying to Edinburgh for the K4. I may try and work out a plan to get down to Bodmin before flying to Italy though!

How is this going to work with W24 being air braked only?

CLASSIC TRACTION PHOTO CHARTER WITH LSWR 02 No. 24 'CALBOURNE' ON THE BODMIN & WENFORD. There is a photo-charter on the Bodmin & Wenford with 'Calbourne' on April 23rd using a small goods train possibly including a SR green PMV. This is an exclusive charter limited to 25 places and costs £75 p.p. Spaces are limited and going fast so book now! This is a very rare chance to photograph this unique loco on former 02 territory in Cornwall! Probably never to be repeated and probably THE ONLY time she will work on her own during her visit to the mainland. To book, please visit the Classic Traction website at: www.classictractioncollection.weebly.com

    That's a generous attitude.

Intrigued by the empty stock working both ways; presumably for the benefit of photographers?

Think that answers the air-brake only question. If will presumably have to work with a vacuum braked loco behind. The timetable shows it working with the Well Tank and the T9. I remember something similar happened a few years ago when the Isle of Wight Terriers visited the Bluebell - they double headed with the E4. I understand that the Mid-Hants' solution for the O2 is to get it to haul the "Thumper" around!

It's hard to get excited about it when the only sports you like are Rugby, Cricket and Gricing!
