Yes, one and the same. He doesn't look as young as he did in the 1980s when I knew him on the Glos Warks Railway but, then again, neither do I! Whilst I don't condone breaking the laws of the road, or any law for that matter,I do have some sympathy with Rev Dave as it is frighteningly easy to break the speed limit if you aren't careful. That said, I currently drive a Kia Picanto (sips petrol) to and from work not a Merc! One thing's for certain, Rev Dave hasn't lost the gift of the gab!
A scene from the Blues Brothers seems to come to mind.

Kudos to the chairman of the bench for the comment 'So that's a guilty plea then!'

I'm intrigued. There is nothing obvious of financial substance behind this - there's a shell company that was incorporated last Friday (13th!) and Heathcote appears to have some other pies to have fingers in, but none of them appear to provide the means to back this sort of project. However clearly they've presented enough credibility for Network Rail to grant a lease and for an MP to be backing them for public funding. It'll be interesting to see who's up for lending them the rolling stock they need - I'd be looking for more concrete behind the project than is publicly visible before I trusted them anything valuable!

It was far from new but yes, best car I ever owned, but I digress. Any news about any of the other rolling stock at Long Marston? Has any of it moved to Sharpness or just those items that I'm aware of moving to Midsomer Norton? Indeed, has anything actually happened reconstruction-wise with the "Beaver Line" yet?

There used to be a lovely collection of classic GWR locos at Sharpness. Unfortunately they belonged to Coopers Metals :(

  7. How come in seven pages nobody's yet mentioned 'fannying about'
You'd think a man of the cloth would buy a bike and give the difference to the poor, wouldn't you? (And people wonder why I have no time for organised r*ligi*n?)

Clearly has an overinflated sense of his own omnipotence I'd say, be it driving or promoting his railway. Surprised he didn't claim Alec was driving ;)

Thanks s1m0nad for the update on the Mk 1 stock and good to see they have found a caring home (not that they weren't cared for at Long Marston). I remember 35006 being chosen originally for use on the GWSR by a shareholder in 35006 P&O SNCo for obvious reasons!

A short article in the latest edition of one of the railway heritage magazines reports that the Stratford and Broadway Railway Society has indeed pulled out of plans to relocate to the proposed Berkeley Vale Railway (BVR) which proposes to take over part of the Sharpness Branch near Gloucester. The Stratford and Broadway has, according to the article, "dispersed its stock elsewhere" following the end of its lease at Long Marston. I know where some of the stock has gone but, if I recall, there was a fair amount and I'm wondering if anyone knows where it has all gone, particularly the BR Mk 1 No 35006?!

The same article updates the situation with regard to the BVR to an extent as it reports that the BVR has clarified its position regarding the takeover of the Sharpness Branch. Pro-active Vision has secured a lease on the sidings complex next to Sharpness Docks but has yet to agree a lease with Network Rail for the whole branch after DB Schenker lodged an objection. I know no more other than is printed in the article but others more closely involved may know more.

Doh! Further to my last post, 35006 is of course now on the Mid Norfolk!
