60007 'stopped' @ the NYMR

Reports and the official NYMR website suggest that 60007 is out of action with a crack in the firebox.

I pity the owning group if that's the case. They seem to spend more time working on repairing 60007 than they do getting to see it in action.

    Very sad news if true.
A crack in the firebox is a major job no matter which way you tackle it?

It's a great Loco and I am sure they will come through, lets hope some £££ is available.

It is true, I am afraid. See the 'Loco Roster (under 'enthusiasts') on the NYMR website.

The crack is believed to be repairable by welding and an approved copper welder has been contacted.

How are things progressing with 60007? My impression was that it should be back on the main line this year.

However, with most of the main line tour operators having announced their 2012 programme, there seems to be scant mention of SNG. I hope it will venture somewaht further afield than Whitby.

Comment on another forum indicates that within the last week or so SNG has passed a hydraulic boiler test and has a new boiler certificate. Good news.

I thought the boiler had to pass a steam test to get a certificate.

From what i read, the cab is going to be put back together by the volunteers that took it to bits, THEN a steam test is taking place.
A repaint for the loco is also happening, prior to extensive running in, then renewing her mainline cert.

Sorry, that was my interpretation of comments on another forum. I assume now the comments about a certificate refer to the hydraulic test, which by inference of the posts the loco passed.

Hydraulic test was passed on 11th Jan. Loco cab, air braking kit etc. now needs to be reassembled. The loco will be repainted before formally returning to traffic. Tender has already been painted. Livery unchanged.

I hope the mainline tour operators are taking note of all this. As per my earlier post, it would be a shame tafter all this work if No. 7 spent the season confined to Grosmont-Battersby/Pickering (No disrespect to the NYMR, I hasten to add!)

If they've no use for her on the ECML then I'd love to see it down here doing a run like the Dorset Coast Express.

The owners have a contract for the Locomotive to run on the NYMR during their peak season, each year. Other thhan Railfest @ York there is little chance of mainline appearances until after the NYMR's wartime weekend.

No, still expecting boiler ticket to expire in autumn 2015.

As has been said 60007 will be NYMR based for most of the summer. The team are looking at a mainline program in the autumn. Of course sometimes loco failures etc. present requests outside what is planned and the loco will be mainline certified when it returns to traffic.

Thanks for the update Nigel. Really looking forward to going behind SNG again. Been well over a year since I last had the chance to be on a tour with it.

I think the NYMR will happy that SNG is available for the peak season this year, with loco availability possibly "tight".
