for the diesel gala September 22/23, i notice the website says:

"Official launch of 33102 into traffic after overhaul."

Wasn't 33102 overhauled and put into traffic several months ago? Seems a bit of a gap for its official launch

Nope, your thinking of 33021 which arrived at CVR in October 2010 and has been the mainstay of the diesel fleet ever since.

Very inconvenient, locos with, as Eric Morecombe might have said, "all the right numbers but not necessarily in the right order".

As the driver of 34072 found at Grosmont MPD in 1991 - he turned up, checked the board, oiled up the loco he thought he was on only for another driver (who has a gift for the oil elves doing his oiling up) to appear alongside 34027 and thank 1st driver for oiling up his loco - 1st driver duly departs for something more air-smoothed to do it all again!

I don't mean to sound rude but the CVR website needs a complete overhaul. I know such things cost money but it really is woefully amateur-looking. That timetable page for example consists of a badly scanned image presumably from the physical brochure. Compare with this or this and it's not good enough... the website is the first stop for the majority of potential visitors and if it's a choice between the CVR or Llangollen, or the CVR and Severn Valley, the person browing those websites is bound to be influenced by the fact that one railway has a clean and professional website whilst the other has a dated and scruffy one.

That is exactly why the timetable has been scanned. It is a short term fix whilst the website is reworked prior to a relaunch in the next couple of months. There is also to be the introduction of an online ticket facility, allowing you to buy your ticket in advance.

And it's not that bad. It's easy to navigate around, and provides all the information required of it which is more than can be said for some other websites.

It does its job - and that is all that's needed

Railways are a whole lot more than websites

Perhaps they also are of the opinion that spending loads of money on a website is not the main priority at the moment..

    CVR Family ticket = £28
Alton Towers Family ticket = £100.80 and thats with the Online advanced 25% ticket reduction. I dont think "family's" in our current climate will be bothered about the website when they look at the price difference.

But as JonJon says there is a new website on the way, if you went back 12 months you would have said the Llangollen website wasn't good enough, but its all done now and you have even used it as an example of how a website should look for tourist purposes.
Cvr has only just started to hit the "Big League" in regards of being a tourist attraction, and will continue to do so over the coming years.

I've always supported the railway and I wasn't having a go, just making an observation.

Sorry but this isn't the right attitude to have. A website needs to do more than just 'the job', it needs to be attractive if it's going to indicate professionalism in the product it advertises.

Please do not take this the wrong way but the CVR/MCR has a bit of a way to go before it can claim to be in the big league.

Excellent news. Shouldn't be long now. Any timescales (not wanting to jump any guns here)?

I think the aim is for April. Whether this will be the Cauldon Lowe weekend in a fortnight or later (War Weekend with an S160?) I'm not sure. Shall try and keep this thread uptodate mind. Unfortunately I'm struggling to physically get down to CVR due to other commitments, so I'm relying on what people who go down tell me.

Is the railway still without steam? I was hoping to pop down within the next couple of weeks
