Probably because they just havent got around to setting a website up.

Also most people who will use their services are from inside the steam industry and know their line of business and contact info.

Having said that however, in this day and age it is always good to use the web as a shop window for potential new customers.

They did have a website a few years ago. Everyone involved in restoring, overhauling and maintaining steam locos in the country knows Barry Gambles, the proprietor. Some of us even get the legendary "Mr. Freddie" calendars!

I will say is that when I went to Porland Bill in August last year, the loco was not there, you use to be able to see it from Wide Road on Portland. And despite me keeping a look out for it and knowing where it was I could not see it, so unless they have moved if further from the road so that people cannot see it, then I have no idea where it is.

If you look up Tradecroft on Google maps satelite view, you will see that British India Line is still on site. But if you look at Tradecroft on Multimap satelite view, you will see that the layout of the site has changed, and British India Line is not there

I think there could be a simpler explanation - perhaps the Multimap photo is from a few years before the Google photo? Comparing the 2 photos, I find it hard to believe that the land has been given up and returned to nature without any evidence of the buildings or yard.

And I thought that 35018 was the only loco stored on site! Does anyone know what else is stored there?

I think there is or was a USA S160 as well.

This from the google users forum: The average age of the imagery is three years, but some is older, some is more recent

So I wouldn't get too excited about seeing or not seeing 35018 in the imagery. I think it may well have moved, but the S160 was there a couple of months ago.

Isn't this loco also an ex MHR which is owned by Richard Stone?

Not sure possibly as nothing much has been heard of it. Wasn't it at one time painted in Longmoor Military Railway Blue and named Franklin D Roosevelt when at the MHR?

A search on 90775 is showing 90775 stored out of service on the NNR? Do the NNR update overhaul progress as I can't seem to find anything?

They do update overhauls sometimes, but 90775 isn't under overhaul at the moment.

    February?

Unless I've been asleep for a month, aren't we still in January (are they wishing the year would end asap, Lol)?

Still nice to see things are progressing well.

You can blame me for that. I wondered which month to use and decided to follow the printed magazines, which come out at least two weeks prior to the month that bears their name.

Well, a new year, a new project as they say. It'll be good to finally get 34053 up an running after the vast amount of time and money spent on it (although don't rush!). It would also mean that SLL would maintain their current record of churning out an ex-Barry or worse condition Bulleid every four years, which is pretty enviable. Also, its about time some work was done to 34072, as it has been idle for nearly ten years. I wonder what the plan for 34010's restoration will be? As I see it, the near future looks a bit like this:

2012: 34053 enters service; start made on fully dismantling 34072 for overhaul
2013: 34028 withdrawn from service (unless boiler ticket is extended) and joins overhaul queue; overhaul for 34072 begins in earnest; 80078 enters works for overhaul alongside 34072?
2014/15: 34072 and 80078 emerge from overhaul (at different times of year); 34028 enters the works; restoration of 34010 begins.
2018: 34070 withdrawn from service (unless boiler ticket is extended).

    A lot of work ahead!

    * Clarification: Due to the possibility of causing confusion, I must stress that this list is not the official policy of SLL, but merely personal speculation as to where things can go from here, given favourable conditions. This speculation is in no way representative of any official policy within SLL. Thanks for your understanding in this matter.

I think "production line" is what you mean!!!!

Nice to see things moving apace ( I have a big soft spot for things of the Bulleid variety, probably something to do with his tutelage under Gresley!)

By the way, the 2014/2015 is not an official start date for the retoration of 34010, merely one I have made-up based upon available information and a bit of guesswork. I do hope it gets its chance in the next ten years.
