Could someone be really helpful and list what has happened to all the 10? I know the Hall and 48xxx are, in effect, either no more, or changed. But the rest, such as the 9F and 6686, I have no clue where they've gone. Thanks.

Good question Fireline and many thanks Lil Bear for completing the picture; I knew the current status of some of the "Barry 10" but your data filled in the gaps, thank you.

Could I use the remains of 44901 to build a B16? I know the boiler will need modification but I'm following the GWS method of using bits of various locos and modifying them to assemble something that looks like what I'm trying to build. Incidentally the B16 New Build Group needs around £30,000 and it'll be running by summer 2013.

    Joking of course!
I'm assuming that '901 is little more than frames, and possibly the cylinders & boiler are by now, the only parts of her with life left in them?

Last photo I saw of 44901 showed that some of the motion is still on it.

901 is to be restored in her own right. Not any rebuild newbuild scheme. Of course I'm not saying nout till I hear any deals have been done.Oh and its nothing to do with the patriot project or any other railways I'm involved in. I just know who is buying her.

I would love to see that too.

OK, rephrase it to nothing has been announced publicly. I have heard there were plans afoot for her but I didn't know any details had been released.

For those interested btw, 4115 main frames are moving to Tyseley and 5227 arrived at Llangollen last week ready for removing what is required for 47XX. Watch out for the 47XX, as this is one project that is going to fly.

I do hope that the 47xx project does "fly". Its a project I thought would not have financial backing (since for one thing these locos were a spotter's nightmare and very few were built anyway)but I understand this is not the case so am happy to be wrong! That said, railway heritage supporters are not used to projects "flying" since both 2999 and the new County are still not running yet. Patience is everything. But, progress on the "new" Hawksworth County has been amazing in recent months. I know this locomotive project produces mixed opinions but the adopted home of GWR heritage has an excellent reputation and I for one will be most impressed with the finished product no doubt.
Regarding the Black 5 (44901) I too understand that its future as a working loco is relatively bright but I know no more than that and have seen no "official" announcements. It will be great to see it restored.

44901? Best place for that would be a certain Black 5 depot in Lancashire. If anyone can fettle it back into life, they can!

Carnforth? :) The Black 5 is not a complex loco; most of the major restoration centres would have little problem restoring it, the main issue wherever it went would be money.
