Presume you mean the one that the RPSI are restoring under contract? (No 5 Drumboe)

    Hi All,
First, when were these shots taken please? Is the museum still open?
Second, where is the loco being restored going to run? The Donegal Town museum has no track, will it be at the Fintown Railway?
    Thanks,
    Andy

Yes, it was looking pretty complete when I saw it last October. A LOT of work has gone into this loco, including new side tanks, forging of new motion parts, and the replacement of a large section of the frames beneath the cab. The boilerwork is the last major item to be tackled and will obviously be expensive. The loco is on loan to the CDRRS (County Donegal Railway Restoration Society) and I think they are trying to get additional grant aid for this work.

    Hi Andy,

Some of the shots have a date of 1998 which seems about right to me - the museum closed in 2000

Once restored 'Drumboe' would probably run on the Fintown railway initially and then possibly transfer to a new CDRRS railway at Barnesmore which is currently being planned/investigated.

Please note that I do not speak for any of these organisations - the above is just my opinion from site visits etc.

Does anyone know what the current situation is with the Foyle Valley Railway? Any prospect at all of reopening?

The council say they are committed to the project and indeed to extending the line, but they've been talking about it for about 4 years now. As usual with council/government schemes, they love their red tape and covering of every conceivable possibility. The NWIRS took their railcar to the Fintown railway back in 2000/2001 and I think relations with the council are at a point that any future operation would probably be run by council employees on a more commercial basis without volunteer support. The council website says that it is open during the summer, but you have to contact another department to make arrangements and I haven't heard of anyone who has visited in the last number of years. If it does reopen then I would guess that you'd be looking at 2013/14
