Looking at Ollie's Schedule, the locomotive is running Edinburgh to Manchester on March 24th. The 31st is open and then her next trip shall be April 14th London King Cross to Scarborough. I think there is a good chance that is going to be your motive power for this trip.

Booked today for 4/2 after RTC confirmed the 07.09 departure from Euston. Makes for a manageable day at a good price. Well done to RTC...for once.

Anyone wishing to contact the mods on the train should do so in the usual way - by posting on the Natpres forum! Any other methods of communication will result in an immediate and indefinite ban, although this may be shortened by the supply of suitable refreshments.

In case you're wondering, I also look just like my avatar and will be providing banking assistance as and when required.

From RTC's website ... "Due to pathing issues passengers joining at Northampton will be supplied with a service train ticket to join and return to Rugby" .

Any news on haulage - we're back in twelve on a five territory again - twelve on two fives on Saturday looked right and ran reliably, as you would expect from the Bury stable; makes you wonder if assistance will be called for

5305 hauled those 11 on the Mersey Moorlander last summer. Were those trains packed?
Ollie has hauled 12 passenger cars over Shap in the other direction. (March 2010)

5305 was to my mind worked extremely hard on both the Mersey Moorlander and a CME last year, OC obviously had no problem. Most trains were as near full as makes no difference.

The Long Drag from Settle to Ribblehead is not quite as tough as Greyrigg followed by Shap. IIRC, both 45305 and 44932 managed 11 or 12 on that route last summer and though they didn't set any records, they weren't in difficulties either. So long as the schedule takes the heavy load into account. The toughest part of the day is probably the climb to Wilpshire.

If opentraintimes is right then the 18th and 25th are outbound via Shap and return via the Settle and Carlisle. Steam Carnforth to Carlisle to Preston.

45305 is a mixed traffic class five built for medium level haulage in its comfort zone around five to ten behind the tender - 70013 is a class seven pacific - comfortable at speed on the WCML

February is month when difficult rail conditions may well be encountered so I think its only realistic to ask the question.

I agree with Frank (checks temperature ). Probably OK in theory, but you wouldn't want any adverse weather or dodgy coal etc

I assume that the RTC has limited the load on Saturday for the '5' as it makes no sense to have the same length train irrespective of whether it's a Class 5 or Class 7. And then there is the debate in another thread about how the shunting DL will get back from Carlisle to Carnforth. As a passenger who specifically asked RTC about the diesel issue before booking, I only hope that my faith is not misplaced.

Ticket letter lists 9 passenger carrying coaches (2 Premier, 1 Premier/First, 1 First, 1 Standard/Buffet, 4 Standard - unusually high proportion of Standard). Add a kitchen car, a brake and the support coach and it could be 12, but the brake and kitchen could also be passenger carrying and included in the 9 listed.
