There are many differences. The shade of Green is different, the shade of red on the bufferbeam is different, the lining as mentioned is different and also the angle below the running plate is green rather than black.

Look at a photo of 5029 and a photo of 5043 or 5051 for a good comparison. :)

Sorry Ben. It's a wonderful piece of art. I'd always wondered what a Castle with a Collett tender would look like in early BR livery. I was struggling to imagine it for myself, as it's so strikingly different from every other livery carried in preservation by the Castles and other similar looking GW engines. Is that better?

I think thats an unnecessarily antagonistic response to what was, in all fairness, a reasonable comment.

No I do not currently volunteer
Who thinks BR blue would be a nice change does it matter if the livery was never actually caried by the loco

I don't and yes, in my opinion.

C'mon lighten up. You don't think I'm in any way taking this seriously do you? I have no issue at all if Ben wishes to show us his artistic side; my comments were just meant as a bit of tongue in cheek fun.

Perhaps it's time to give this place a rest for a while. I've been getting concerned that my post rate has been increased above 0.25/day, which really is far too much wibbling.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but there really is a difference between tongue-in-cheek fun and leaving an overly-sarcastic comment such as that in post 22. Whilst we all indulge in a little ribbing now and again, I really do suggest that you re-read your post and consider whether you would have seen the funny side had you been at the receiving end of it. And no, I'm not a fan of GWR steam, either.

I'm really not going to waste any more time. If you think an "artistic impression" is actually required for the mind to visualise what a Castle looks like in early BR Green, then I really do despair. Anyhow....each to their own.

There is a difference between visualising and actually seeing the finished product. This 'artists impression' (sorry, I wasn't too sure what else I could call it, a photoshopp
ed image maybe?) was meant to be a little fun, but it attracted a lot of attention on our Facebook page and I thought I'd share it with everyone on here.

I believe that everyone has the right to voice their opinion but I'm also a believer of "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all".

It's a brave man who would do that to a steam loco...

But I'd volunteer ! To see BR Blue on a late 60's steam loco... 5MT, or 8f or Jinty... Oh yes..
Just to see how it may have been... Maybe 8624's next livery (and before Southern Green) :)

BR rail blue? complete with double arrow on the tender sides?? would you also go to the extent of lining it out in grey and white? to match the coaching stock of the time?

Ben, why was 5029 removed from the Great Britain Tour?
Will Winter Maintenance go into April?
Has a replacement been found? It is a yes/no question.
RTC will probably make the announcement in due time I imagine.

Can't wait to see her out. I love Castle locomotives.

    Hi Mike (and others),

The News section of our website (Nunney Castle) has been updated with information that should answer your question.

As a side note, I would like to ask that people wishing to discuss what has been put on our News page if they could start a new thread rather than post on this one, as this was made only to discuss the locos livery change.

    Many thanks,

    Ben
