The article refers to 6023 itself, stating that certain things have happened to the loco & tools & parts have been stolen or "hidden". Although it goes on to say regarding the latter that it may not be related to the "dispute". My point about what is railway preservation coming to is about the petty squabbling/disputes/arguments etc that go on in a supposedly leisure industry.

The industry is built on fights and struggles.. Ultimately it's ususally the same ones who later go on to demolish it.
    sad but it's life.
There is another big engine yet to hit the news which will set the blood boiling soon enough when it's owners announce its fate.

After 40 years experience of preservation I still see the Egos and Politics which have caused the destruction of more heritage lines and locomotive projects than even the shortage of funds. Hopefully the King won't be another loss to the same twin evils.

"leisure" industries are always the worst. People are far more emotionally involved.

Any idea of when we'll learn the fate of this big engine? I presume it has a wheel arrangement of 4-6-something and is under overhaul as well. :p
As you say industry is built on fights and squabbles but it would seem a shame for permanent damage to a very good institution over this.

Oooo could speculate here. Galatea is going to be morphed into a GT3 replica and outshopped in Chocolate brown?

    or....

Canadian Pacific is going to be a parts donor the remains of the S15 on the NYMR to make a box-pox wheeled, thermic syphon fitted high speed 'Super-Arthur'?

I think mOrris is reffering to Flying Scotsman. 4-6-2 in overhaul. Not Lizzie, She isn't there yet.

Will 6023 be involved in various touring companies trips. RYTC has the King down for those 2 Cotswold Explorers. What are the other trains that can be powered by vac only locomotives?

Another "I know something but won't tell you" post. If you can't tell us, why post?

Its all pretty sad and pretty pointless- thats if the article is correct. Now we have the debacle of 2 western kings, a certain southern 4-6-0, a royal scot and a rather famous engine named after a racehorse. Very hard to see how the industry can attract outside funding against this backdrop!!!??? I can get mistakes and that is life; some projects are well managed and some or not......organisations learn and improve......... but sabotage and infighting on site is all rather sad. I dont think people should accept this sort of thing as the status-quo; there seem to be quite a lot of egos and little men in the industry and very few who can look themselves in the mirror and say they have the interests of the movement at heart. There are valuable assets at stake, public & historic interests and (albeit not in the case of 6023) public money. Some of the incidents, oversights, pettiness, politics and bickering leave a very sour taste in the mouth.

Maybe it will take something to hit an individual hard in the pocket or hard on their reputation for individuals in our movement to stop playing boys games. There seems to be a lack of integrity and in many quarters a lack of leadership in the movement and it looks good on no-one.

People need to grow up pretty quickly and groups need to show some leadership and cut out a lot of the cr*p that has happened else we can forget about the future. I wouldn't like to stab at money that one might argue could have been better spent on the projects mentioned but it is damning if what we read is correct.

I dont know the case itself and have no agenda re 6023 but as an enthusiast and having donated a fair bit to the movement I'm beginning to lose trust with those who we entrust to look after our heritage.

Dont think its FS, or work would have stopped on it, it seems to be on the final straight now.

My opinion is that it is LMS, Red, at Crewe, and been unworked on for a while.............

Well the racehorse clue narrows it down a bit as only one of the LNER racehorse namers made it into preservation and that's not 4472 and I doubt you're talking about any of the Deltics.

Yup spam cam I wasnt meaning to be criptic about 4472 and dont know anything other than the state it arrived in at York and what a shame it lost various parts and had its handbrakes cut through- also that it does seem sad that all that moeny was spent without realising the frames were cracked

Believe me disgraceful and inept management is not confined to the railway sector.

Like many more I would love to see Blue Peter return and make up the full hand of A Classes, but it looks as if that is not to be. The blue king looked wonderful at it's launch - if there has been nonsense going on - then name names and root them out!

One railway related preservation venture with a thirty seven year history of operations has lost three to four hundred thousand a year for five years now - and can't see that there is a need to change it's modus operandi having regard to its last press release. Its members and supporters have seen the approaching disaster and through their AGM have sought change by, and of, the management to improve prospects - but change is anathema and on we sail towards the rocks.

So what are we to expect after yet another summer of no change - an announcement of another third to half a million blown away?

A public appeal last year raised enough money to provide a sticking plaster - but the charities involved won't say how much was raised, or how the money raised is to be used - so much for honest dealing - and what happens if we are back with the begging bowl in eight months time?

Who's going to give twice in that scenario?

Is this a peculiarly British disease?

Can't you 'name names' and tell us which organisation you're going on about and its alleged failings? Wouldn't that help 'root out' the problem?

So, getting back to the subject of 6023, what's the prognosis? Back in steam in March? More running-in trials and tests, and if so, where? Probably not at the MNR, I'd guess. Last year, before the current problems surfaced, there was talk of her going to the GCR. Maybe that will be taken up now? Her first mainline commitment appears to be The Cotswold Explorer for RTC on 6th July (according to UKsteam.info).
