This has just appeared on the A1SLT website:

"Work continues at the Mid Hants Railway on the C exam for Tornado so that she is ready for the 2012 season. So far all the brake gear has been dismantled and inspeted and found to be in excellent condition. The boiler has had its insurance inspection and passed its cold exam, the hot exam being planned for February. All the gauges on the loco and support coach have been taken for calibration checks and the two injectors have been removed for servicing back at Darlington Locomotive Works.

Work is now concentrating on the valve and piston exam and various smaller tasks including safety valve examination, servicing of the rear air pump and other miscellaneous items.

The locomotive will be in action at the Mid Hants Railway on 18th and 19th of February."

A further update has appeared on the A1 Steam Trust site here: Latest with details of a problem with the brake gear.

Tornado WILL NOT be operating on the MHR on the 18th & 19th February but she may operate over the weekend of the 25th & 26th February.

Typical! One minor component in the wrong place causes more hassle than the rest put together! It is amazing how something like a small pin seized in position is always in the most inaccessible place to apply heat and heavy hitting which then results in numerous components being dismantled to fettle the little b****r... talk about the law of sod in operation. I guess we've all been there at one time or another and you have to feel for the team struggling to turn the loco out on time. However, it seems to have caused a very minor delay in what appears to have been a very rigorous and rapidly executed winter maintenance period. Full marks to the MHR for helping out.

There is still no update about this on the MHR web site regarding the cancellation of the 18th and 19th Feb running days.

When 60163 was painted BR green it was intended to swop the tender emblems after a while.

I wonder if the 46233 team will do the same.

When the Brunswick Green extension was announced I had a feeling that she would carry both emblems.

I thought she was going back to Apple Green in December then BR Express Blue at a later point but if thats changed then it won't bother me as I can't wait to see 60163 in BR Blue.
