I will shortly be finishing off the paint job on my S.R. 'Queen Mary' brake van, which I am painting in B.R. bauxite livery. What I don't know is the colour of the underside of the roof boarding on the balconies. Will somebody please enlighten me.

    Thanks,
    Bob.

The suspicion is that it should be red.

You must be joking Tim, the inside of the balcony roof?

IMHO , if you are painting it bauxite then the inner roof should be the same . However if it was in S R colours m then the roof would be white.

Bob , I suggest that you E-Mail me on my private E-mail address and we can take it from there.

    Best regards to all.

BR vans either in Bauxite or Grey had the verandah roof area painted in the same livery.
However Sharks were Stone colour above 3ft to the roof.

Slightly random question Bob, but was this the Queen Mary that came from Swanage?

    Thanks

Rumpole forgive me for answering for Bob Gordon, but yes this is the one that caught fire the the Swanage.

Sadly it was rejected by the powers that be at the MHR because they considered that the frames were too bent. What they did not take into account was was that once the cabin and roof had been reinstated the solebar would have straightened out anyway with the weight.

Such are the joys of sending some one to inspect it that had no engineering experience, the Mid-Hants loss.

    Regards

Sorry about that! I clearly need to pay a little more attention to the question - somehow I missed the whole 'roof boards' part!!
