I'm a little late with this posting but it may help to say in relation to the George Hinchcliffe Special that George would have been 90 on the 17th February and West Coast Railways added two extra coaches to the train (hence the need for two Black 5s) to include a party of his familty and friends, including a contingent from Gainsborough Model Railway Society. I was privileged to be invited (along with my wife) and the whole day out was a wonderful memorial to a great man. West Coast Railways deserve enormous thanks for the way in which they recognised George, who was, of course, such an important part of the scene at Carnforth in the Steamtown days, helped to pioneer steam-hauled rail tours, founded the Gainsborough Society and was a pioneer of the Steam Preservation movement.

The move at Farington Junction involved the detaching of one of the additional coaches with the two locos and their support coach, which were then propelled back to Lostock Hall Junction and taken forward to Preston so that those who had boarded at Preston could be returned there.

Thanks for that John, West Coast then should receive a big pat on the back for organising that and the Preston passengers were honoured to have their own double headed 3 coach train.

Now that really is something 'SPECIAL' Must have been kept quiet cos posters were questioning on here the rough deal for Preston passengers who would be dropped well away from there. Excellent stuff

What have you been doing in your life, never been over Shap behind steam.. If it's Cromwell as expected it should be a fairly noisy one, don't ecpect too many fireworks to Greyrigg though, they usually take that fairly steady saving the effort for Shap itself.

I know its been a long time coming Ralph! Mainline steam over the last 20 years has been family trips, the runs to Scarborough and Fort William to Mallaig etc.
Really looking forward to this run, last time I had a trip on Cromwell was the demonstration line at Bressingham around 1969, the footplate had around ten of us on!
    Coach K on Saturday.
    Regards, John.

Make sure that you don't have any cans of suspect brews on the table, reputations are ruined by such things being spotted by ARAD. (Association of Real Ale Drinkers)

Don't you worry Ralph. The lads from gods county (Yorkshire) don't partake in any suspect beverages.
Certainly none of that JS bitter nonsense.

Some of us are old enough to remember when John Smith produced beer that was drinkable. I think that ended when Courage took over.

Yes agreed. Just like other brewers, Websters, Ramsdens and others. Just two from Halifax, gone but not forgotten.

Tickets arrived the other day, RTC letter states Cromwell on at Preston, though UK Steam showing on at Carnforth. Just curious really, which one is correct?

CARNFORTH. Last weeks letter from RTC said the two Black5's were coming on at Preston but they came on at Carnforth as per NR timings. RTC also maanged to get one on of the Black 5's wrong in the letter saying the train would be hauled by 45305 + 44871 rather than 45305 + 44932 ! At least the timings in the letter were correct.
