I just hope that the calculations on gauging are correct and that nothing scratches 4464's new coat of apple green paint!:peep:

For this trial run they have put the paint on the INSIDE of the casing to avoid getting it scratched or dirty.

Ian, great idea. How about when you come to paint 92 squadron after her overhaul painting the cladding malachite on the one side and BR green on the other? Then yon could change liveries by simply swapping the cladding from one side to another.

do steam locos that run on LU have to be mainline approved or just restored to MT275 or equivilent , so this loco could be any loco that happens to be availble? or would it be a mainline registered engine?

When steam on the met was running they didnt have to be mainline registered, not sure if that is still the case or not mind

    Re: LU 150 plans...

The locomotive is not operating on the outer ends of the train, it is therefore not fitted with Tripcock protection (think of it as a mechanical version of ATP). Met No.1 will need a Tripcock for the proposed special runs in 2013, but it must have been fitted before for previous Steam on the Met runs.

I really don't want people to think I am being childish, I am itching to share the information, but it was told to me in good faith by the organisers and there are concerns about the security of the locomotive given previous history of un-authorised access to the depot where it is being stored until returning to its home railway. Mind you, my project does have two Underground stock cars on the same site and they haven't been tagged yet, so I am optimistic it will be ok.

I hope that makes things a bit clearer. Best of luck to all those going out to see it tonight / early Sunday morning.

    Regards,

    Dan

I don't know whether anyone can reveal anything as presumably the loco is still in a pretty risky place in London, however from what I've heard this was a quite close guess?

Im not sure if the Managing Director for surface transport needed to be there, but how fantastic that he was! I get the feeling that with people like Mike Brown, Peter Hendy and the like this kind of thing is getting just the kind of support you need from the top of TfL. Good to hear such a comprehensive test went well.
