Just found this myself! And made a small donation too - I remember her in Blue when she first arrived, my son has a Hornby model in said livery signed by Andrew Naish who as well as owning CP was a regular washer-upper on the Watercress Belle.

I wonder if 35005 will be overhauled at Eastleigh and if so does anyone know what was the last MN to be overhauled at Eastleigh and when.

    Thanks

He also appeared on a TV quiz show. Can't remember which but 15 to 1 sticks in my mind for some reason.

Well she is there for storage so seems likely but work may have to restart on Wadebridge's tender as she still has 35005's at the moment doesn't she.

I think it was 35007 in or around September 1966 as was 34013. The last one was 34089.

34051, now in the Great Hall at the NRM (albeit in the back corner), last Friday. Looking a little shinier than when I last saw her.

Is that the same place she used to be in. Wonder how the appeal for the cosmetic restoration is doing but your right she does look shiny.

To be honest, it looks as if the cosmetic restoration has already occurred!

No, it's always been shiny (and thus difficult to photograph indoors), but don't let appearances fool you. I should think its been for a bit of a brush-up to see what needs doing, but you can see that there are still some patches (there's a browny-yellow one on the cylinder casing) and rust spots (the large blotch in the same area) dotted about the exterior. When I last saw it, the rust was around the edges of the panneling and on top of the tender, with paint clearly flaking off. The cab really was in a sorry state (at the time, I thought the stuff had been stolen, but with hindsight, a lot of fittings were probably taken out when she was withdrawn to keep other locomotives serviceable). I remember her in this corner, too, and was surprised when I first saw her in Station Hall. Apparently, £14K of the £35K needed has been raised as of September 2011 (see: No 34051 Winston Churchill restoration appeal ), but the January 30 deadline has long past. If it was January 30, 2015, then that really would be a bonus... What is more, it would be possible to recreate a fair bit of the original funeral train.

After seeing 34051 last year I was disappoint in her condition. From memory her drive side window was missing and the flexible screen between the tender and loco had collapsed. There was also rust appearing all around the loco. Let's hope when she is cosmetically restored again they put her in the main hall. If she return to the other hall you can't see the lower half of the loco.

That is one of the disadvantages of the 'Station' hall, especially because they - entirely understandably - put protective barriers between platform and loco to protect against boisterous kids. When I went to see 13000 I was disappointed to find 45% of it hidden. As I say though, it is understandable.

Wasn't there an appeal to pay for a cosmetic restoration? What became of it?

Not having a dig, but see post #1890, which gives the latest (ie. September 2011!) on the appeal...

A BR Standard loco firebar segment, also used on Bulleids.
